I have been a customer of Direct TV for over ten years. Over and over I have had to dispute with them about charges added to my account without explanation. The most recent was the NFL Sunday Ticket charge added to my account without my approval.
I put my account in suspension through most of the fall season 2014. Upon resuming my services January 2015 there was a charge of 39.99 added to my account that I did not catch until I was charged 39.99 for the second time in February. When I called to have this credited back, the first person I spoke with told me I was unable to get a credit. Then I requested my services be cancelled altogether.
I did get a verbal promise that I would be credited the two months worth of charges, I cancelled my services and will no longer do business with Direct TV. I thought there was a law against companies fraudulently charging for services and goods not requested by customers. What happened to that? This is not the first time Direct TV has added unauthorized charges to my bill but it will certainly be the last time!
I cancelled my Dirct Tv Account because I moved to a new place that did not allow dishes on roof. They told me to return my equipment or they would charge my credit card on file for the equipment fee $172.00. I asked where to bring equipment. They said I could not bring it in to any location and that they would send me the boxes to put components in to ship back. Three weeks went by and I called them. They looked up my account and said they were shipped already. I asked them where they shipped them. They said to my address on file and verified correct address. I asked for tracking and they told me there is no way to track it but he would resend it.
three more weeks went by, i called again. That person swore it was shipped six weeks ago. I asked what happened to 3 weeks ago, they said nothing was sent three weeks ago. Then they said they would resend it. I told them to document that they were sending it and again verified correct address. Again, no tracking could be provided.
Each phone call I asked for an address where I could just ship it myself at my own expense. Every call the denied me an address to ship it and said I have to use the box and label they send me.
I called two weeks later, they told me it was shipped on date of my first call. They had no record of any other times nor any record that I even called them after I orignally cancelled my service. Then he put me on phoen with someone else who tried to get me to sign up with them again.
This continued on every couple of weeks. Then when I called after that, they said it was beyond the return period and my credit card had already been charged.
This whole thing is criminal. I heard from others, when sharing my experience, that this happened to them, as well. This was last year. I sent two letters requesting my refund along with request for address where I could just ship the boxes.
I received no response.
So now, February 23rd, 2015, I am having same difficulty with sending my office Direct Tv components back and it is EXACT same scenario. They make me call customer service, request the box and it never comes. It has been two weeks since first request and NOTHING has been delivered.
They have charged our account $150. for unreturned units that they won't let us return.
I am sure they do this because the units are no longer updated and are of no value to them after they have been used for a few years.
This is a total scam to take money that doesn't belong to them and avoid taking back old equipment they deem important enough to charge us $150. + for it.
Direct TV uses several deceptive business practices. The most aggregious practice is charging customers a month in advance. This is deceptive because Direct TV or no business should have the right to collect fees for a service before the service is delivered. Another gutter business practice is offering customers premium channels for three months and then charging customers $50/month when they do not cancel.
I had hoped that after AT&T aquired Direct TV things would get better but no such luck. I left Direct TV in June 2014 and went with Uverse. The total bill was paid and Uverse was installed. I received a bill for 230.00 for service dates of 2/2015 to 3/2015. Have not had service since 6/2014. Go figure. First bill I have gotten since I left. Wish me luck as I battle Direct TV and AT&T. I did cancel the debit card I used last to pay the account so they cannot draft from my checking account.
We paid $127.00 to upgrade our service to High Def.This is what we were told it would cost. They sent a installer to our home. The person they sent said he could not get a signal and did not have a ladder to reach the roof.So another appointment was made.A few days lator two Direct TV Installers showed up and they also said, they don't have a ladder and that they connected to our neighbors dish. Not knowing that when my neighbors moved we would lose our signal. Now Direct wants more money to install a new dish.
I ordered DirectTV because I wanted to watch the NHL. I lived in Europe for 12 years so I was willing to pay to watch my favorite sport.
Well, I spent 75 bucks to have the dish installed and got Direct TV. Little did I know that when the hockey season ended, they wanted more money to watch the playoffs. So I paid it...then the semi-finals started, I couldn't watch them...the channels were blacked out, called these d-bags and they wanted MORE money. I paid it. Then the finals started...I couldn't watch a game I wanted to watch and they wanted even MORE money! I paid it.
When I went to watch a final game I could NOT watch it. When I called these people they said the service wasn't available in my area. Unf-ingbelievable.
So...They kept charging me extra to watch the playoffs and then they charged me for a service they could not provide. I went off on these people and explained to them that is called fraud! They didn't care, and I cancelled the service immediately.
So then I get a bill from these punks with a $400 extra charge that was not itemized...they just sent me this huge bill (which of course I would never pay) and I called them and they told me that my ""contract"" was for 2 years and I have to pay 400 bucks to terminate the ""contract"" I never signed.
I went off and told them I would see them in court and I would file a complaint in Charlottesville court for fraud, which I was 100% serious. They quit sending me hate mail because I guess they believed me when I told them I was going to file a complaint!
It is sad that we need a website like Ripoff Report but ALL of the cable and internet companies are ALL ripoffs!
This company fails to correct their billing erors. They hide the ability to speak to a customer service rep by a revolving request for money. They will screw you as they did our family for hundreds of dolloars then claim the issues are ours and not theirs.
Please do not use Direct TV! They lie about the costs related to the service. Paid over $1128.00 more than I agreed over 24 months. I have finally ended my two year agreement and severed the relationship, upon returning the equipment the company is now contacting me for an additonal $194.00. RUN from this company, not reputable! They do not honor anything they say. Paid over $2000 for basic tv over 2 years, this is twice what I paid my previous provider. I had left them thinking I would save a few dollars during some tough times. HUGE mistake.
I am trying to help insure that other people do not make the same mistake that I made. Please stay away from Direct TV.
I was overcharged for equipment. I had a receiver in a second bedroom which I had not used in months. I decided to cancel the receiver and was told that particular receiver had already been deactivated in 2011. I did not deactivate it and it was still on my invoice. They had me paying for a receiver which they deactivated but had not removed from my invoice for over two years!!!. Upon further investigation they showed a receiver which I never had activated on Oct. 2012. I don't know what receiver they are talking about but they only will credit me one month of $6.00 for a receiver which they got money for 17 months which I never had such a receiver. They will not credit me any more than the $6.00. Clearly a ripoff!!! Not even as a good customer will they credit my account. I have been a good customer since 2006 but that will change now. They want 3 days to investigate the situation and they will get back to me with their findings which we know will be in their favor. Clearly they don't care about keeping customers.
