When I learned my son had a drug problem I admitted him to a voluntary detox center. From there we determined that we wanted a residential drug treatment center for him to recover. My insurance covered Destination Hope in Fort Lauderdale with a co-pay of $2,350.00.
I looked on their web site and spoke to a representative before I agreed to the program for my son. The pictures on the web site show an almost resort like setting, and I was told that there was 24 hour supervision of the clients by staff technicians.
After a couple of days in the program my son told me that he felt uncomfortable because all the clients talked about was drugs and getting high. While he was there he learned how to make crystal meth and homemade alcohol.
After 9 days in the program, one of the clients smuggled in cocaine and he and 2 other clients used , including my son. I received a call that my son was getting kicked out of the program and there would be no refund of the $2350.00 co-pay.
When I picked up my son he had left some clothes in his apartment, I drove to the apartments where they board the patients and can tell you they look nothing like the pictures on their website!!!!
We walked into the technicians apartment and the supervisor was laying on the sofa watching TV and the office was disgustingly filthy. When I went to the patients apartment it was not much better, the carpet walls and furniture were filthy. There were not fresh cut flowers or spotless surroundings like pictured on the destination Hope website.
I feel like I was really misled and that I set my son up for failure by putting him in this program and now i am out $2350.00 also.
