Recently, I was a resident at Friends of the Family's domestic violence shelter in Denton, TX. I was bitten by bed bugs. Verbally abused by the staff and residents. Items that I purchased (that should have been given by the shelter) were constantly stolen. When I made a complaint, staff rallied together to make it appear that I was the problem. Staff did not want to clean and forced the residents to clean up after staff and other residents. Staff and residents would choose a more vulnerable resident to bully each day. Staff have called me names and used derogatory language to describe my children. Staff yelled at myself and my children. Denton County Friends of the Family should not receive any donations or grants. They are not spending any funds to better the victims living conditions or to help them become self suffient. This place is deplorable.

The DCFOF is supposed to move families from crisis to confidence but instead they cause even more crisis and emotional trauma for family violence victims. They are currently being investigated. Do not donate any money or products to them- some of the staff take home the food and clothing that is meant to help victims. Employees scream, cuss out victims and tell them they deserve the abuse. They even resort to name-calling. Any complaints fall on deaf ears, which is precisely why this organization is in such shambles. They are only in the business for wreaking havoc on the lives of victims; they seem to derive pleasure from it.
