I have Cuna mutual disability added to a loan that I acquired for an extra fee on behalf of I become disabled. I became disabled and this company searched my Facebook page followed by harassing phone calls assuming that I was working then they needed paper work from my doctors at least 3 times a year (I would think if a doctor says your disabled why would you need to ask them that same question 3 times in one year. The company now ask for my income tax returns from last year yesterday I received a letter stating now they would like my 2014 tax return. My God what else will you want! It seems to me that Cuna mutual does not want to pay and if that is so why take the money from the consumer if that's the case. I would not refer anyone to this company so they will be harassed. Shame on you Cuna mutual !

We are members of a credit union and when we bought a new car three yers ago, and then took out two signature loans, we made a point of including life/disability/unemployment coverage with our account. We were charged $60+ each month for three years without ever missing a payment or paying late.

In February 2014 my wife discovered a tiny lump smaller than a pea in her left breast. Because she was uninsured, we had a difficult time finding a doctor or agency to examine the lump until June 12, 2014 when she was able to get a mammogram which confirmed she had cancer and on June 15th when she was able to have a biopsy performed which confirmed that she had Stage 4, Triple Negative Breast Cancer. It is a very aggressive cancer and probably the worst type of breast cancer to get. We were then sent to an oncologist who again confirmed the cancer diagnosis and prepared a program of chemotherapy that began on July 22. The oncologist certified that she was, in fact, disabled as of June 12, 2014 with a small chance of success.

We notified the credit union which then notified CUNA. Many calls were made between us and CUNA with different employees telling us that the doctor's diagnosis was acceptable and that CUNA would make their payments retroactive to June 12th when the cancer was first confirmed. They instructed me to tell the credit union that they would begin making payments on the car loan and one of the signature loans as of the payments that were due on July 20th. The credit union called us at about the same date and said that they had talked to "Lynn" at CUNA and everything was set for them to begin making payments as of July 20th, although the first payment would be late.

That's when the fun began, with many calls between Anna, her oncologist, the credit union, and primarily "Lynn" at CUNA over the claim and the constant delays.

Today we received an e-mail from "Lynn" at CUNA "apologizing" for the current delay, but that they will not pay the claim until they are satisfied with the doctor's disgnosis. The oncologist is working on Anna's case with the oncologists at the University of Arizona Hospital which includes some of the top cancer doctors in the country. For CUNA to question their qualifications is beyond insulting and is obviously an attempt by CUNA to weasel out of paying this legitimate claim. In the meantime, Anna's cancer has progressed to the point where the tumor is double the size of a grapefruit and she was forced to borrow a wheelchair from "Friends In Deed" in Green Valley, Arizona just to get out of the house. To claim that they don't believe the doctor's disgnosis and to question Anna's obvious disability is, again, an insult to everyone involved and our attorney says borders on fraud on CUNA's part.

If you are offered an insurance policy from your bank or credit union for life, disability, or unemployment, we urge you to think twice about the cost of the policy and the distinct possibility that CUNA will not pay any claims you might make in the future. In my opinion, this company should be avoided like the plague.
