Court Reporting Institute of Dallas Reviews

Based on misrepresentations by several school representatives, I enrolled in the Court Reporting Institute of Dallas in 2011 with the verbal guarantee that I would graduate and be employed in the field by 2014. I have since learned that this time frame is impossible to accomplish for the very reasons the reviewer above listed...the curriculum disallows the student from advancing "at their own pace" in that theory classes restrict the student from beginning the practical aspect of the program (i.e. speedbuilding, which is the ulimate measure of one's success).

I have also learned that Financial Aid added fees and padded my student loan requests without my knowledge or consent, and fallaciously changed their records to reflect that it was I that requested additional monies...all of which were paid directly to the school and which I must now pay back to Sallie Mae.

Also, in my second year, I called to complain about a certain instructor who was offering no help and whose lesson plans did not facilitate the completion of the very course she was teaching. Rather than address my concern, I was transferred to the registrar who said nothing of the instructor, but abruptly threatened that I would "lose" my financial aid if I did not immediately switch from part-time to full-time. Again, upon subsequent request of an explanation, CRID's records reflect that I called the registrar and insisted I be transferred to full-time.

Additionally, CRID representatives do not disclose to students that certifications and new equipment and software are required after graduation, which can collectively total tens of thousands of dollars. They neglected to mention this until I had five semesters under my belt.

I brought all this before the my State's officials, and although they investigated my claims, as I stated above, CRID representatives doctored their records to make it look like I intentionally requested excessive financial aid, etc. I had to withdraw as I could not afford to incur any more debt and finish my schooling. Six months away from graduation and I can't complete their program, and now I'm paying $400 per month on student loans at nearly 15% interest without the career I was "guaranteed" to assist in repayment.

I strongly advise that anyone considering the field of stenography/court reporting go elsewhere for their education. CRID's underhanded practices are immoral and unconscionable, and I can personally attest that their disregard for the actual education of their students, all while grabbing as much federal money as they can, has the potential to financially ruin a person. It did me.
