I reserved 2 rooms on 8/1/14, at this hotel. I reserved them with my debit card. The reservations was for 8/30/14, and I spoke with them on 8/29/14, to tell them spousal unit was going to be one checking in, along with his daughter and her 3 kids, and had them add his first name, so there wouldn't be any confusion when he went to check in.
Also, I spoke with them 8/30/14 to tell them that it needed to be noted would be late check in, as they were at the Old Thresher's Reunion in nearby Mt. Pleasant IA.
Sunday morning, 8/31/14, I noticed on the online banking that the hotel had taken out 167.99 dollars. I called them to ask about it, and was told by the clerk that morning, that one room had been paid for with cash, and that the other room had been put on card.
When he got home Sunday afternoon, he said he had tried to use ATM card to get daughter 100 dollars for gas money to go home to KS, and got an insufficient funds notice. I didn't think about that the hotel said he charged one room on the card at that time.
This morning, 9/1/14, I remembered to tell him he had used almost 200 dollars of what was in that account, to pay for room with his card. That's when he told me, no, he had paid cash for both rooms. I asked him for the receipt, before I called hotel. He said they did not give him one.
I asked him why, when he had given them cash, he handed over debit card? He said the girl asked for it, and when he questioned it, was told that she needed to put his information into their system, so he gave it to her and she swiped it.
I called the hotel, and Deb told me that the 167.99 was a hold placed on account, so if there was vandalism to room, it would be covered. I told her he was over 70 years old and wasn't like he was getting down with Motley Crue, and that at no time, in conversations, or on their website, was it mentioned that this would be done. She said they hadn't actually gotten the money it was just on hold. But my bank statement says it has been taken out.
I asked her why I was told he had paid cash AND used debit card, she didn't know, as it showed he paid cash for both rooms.
I told her that this was false advertising and fraudulent too, as it is not stated anywhere.
And that I wanted money back in there. She said it would be several days, and I asked her were they going to pay interest, or get it. She finally said, I could call bank, and the bank could call them and they could tell bank to release funds...but I pointed out it is Labor Day and the bank is closed. And that he is OTR truckdriver and needed that money to run on this week.
I called corporate and talked to Vicki, who said this wasn't corporate policy, but individual hotels, and that the money would be clear in "usually 72 hours". She was not sympathetic, and pretty much a smart aleck to boot.
So here we sit, with almost 200 dollars in an account, that is unavailable, and we weren't told about this, not one single time.
