I purhcased my home warranty as a new home buyer in April 2013 to cover my home for the first year in case something went wrong. The house was completely remodeled but little did I know the furnace was the only appliance not replaced. It went out during the winter and I have hardwood floors and it iwas freezing. Calling the Colonial they sendt an incompetent tech out that reported my funrnace was out due to a short of some sort. They then said they would review the claim and get bakc to me.
They then requested 2 years of maintenance records on the furnace. Since I jsut bougthn the home I did not have any such records. They denied my claim due to no mainetenance I then called out a aprofessional person who has been in the business and he wen through my system and although it was 23 years old what had happened to my furnace was not anything that could have been prevented by serviicing the furnace nor was it due to its age..it was just a fluke.
I then contacted Colonial, they denied my request, I sent them an appeal to reconsider in writing with all the documentation and they sent me a standard letter and said they were denying my appear. Their bases for denial was rediculous and they then told me I could have canceled the policy in 30 days if I didnt like their terms. I reviewed the wording on the policy and it only states,,,they MAY ask for records and it may be bneeded.,
I planned on suing them but not I cannot locate an agent of service in California and they seem to be oiuot of business so there is no way to sue them.
I had one additonal plumbing claim and again, they actually never sent anyone and I had to have the work completed my self ans the upstairs toilket pipe was leaking to my lower celiling and molding.
This company is nothing more than a scam and took honest people's money to line their pockets with no intention of paying out claims. If someone want to file a class action, I am gamed.
This home warranty service is completely useless. They use every possible excuse to deny homeowner claims. Although I had several claims while a member, they never paid for the repairs for a single one. The last time I made a claim, they told me that the policy was cancelled for non-payment. I told them I never received any notification of this. I got a new credit card replacing the one I had on this account and I would gladly have given them the new credit card number if I had only known that it was an issue. They claimed they sent an email just 3 days ago, which I never got. I asked them to reinstate the policy and they said no. Total waste of money!
Cancelled our American Home Warranty policies for our primary residence and rental home during the Fall 2013 due to increased annual premium prices. Researched a variety of home warranty companies and decided to enroll in two new policies with Colonial. On 3-21-14 I attempted on numerous occasions to contact Colonial via phone and online. Since that point in time, the phone message has stated ""The Office Is Closed"" and the online Claim Center has read ""System Unavailable"".
We have about 9 months remaining on each policy. The policies were paid in full upon enrollment.
Has this company gone out-of-business and/or filed for bankruptcy?
A bankruptcy process will take years and the major creditors will be compensated first. ""If"" there are any funds remaining then other creditors/customers will be compensated but most likely not in full.
