My daughter and I signed up for Club Membership at Club Metro in Old Bridge. After our contract is over, we went to the gym to cancel our membership. We were given a sheet of paper with instructions on the cancellation - we basically have to send a cancellation via certified mail to the address certified, wait another billing cycle before they can cancel the membership.
Being good citizens, we followed the process and mailed two cancellation letters for our respective memberships. My membership was cancelled but my AMEX was charged $21.39 each for November and December for my daughter's membership. I called ABC Financial, their billing service, to dispute the charge. They confirmed the cancellation of my membership but indicated that they did not receive my daughter's. They instructed me to send another cancellation letter and wait for another billing cycle after they receive the new letter. I insisted that they should have received both letters - they either misplaced it or did not process the cancellation correctly. When they would not budge, I told them I was going to dispute the charge with American Express and report the issue to the Better Business Bureau. I was threatened that they will report me to a collections agency and the woman I was talking to hanged up the phone on me.
I have the mailing receipt, the delivery confirmation and the signature of the person from Club Metro in Old Bridge who received the cancellation.
I have filed a dispute with American Express and the Better Business Bureau. I have posted my experience in Yelp and given them a 1 star rating ( i would have given them a negative if that option was aavailable) and will continue to post my experience on the internet so that other unsuspecting consumers will not have the experience I had with this gym.
