I am not here to tell another man or woman for that matter how to pick and choose a company to work for. However; it would be erroneous of me not to share the experience that I had with this company; Climate Express Inc. (in Union, Mo.) - whereby you can draw your own conclusion or at minimum be forewarned about the company, so that you can adjust your expectations. Regardless as to what the recruiting personal tells you- this job will not pay well. The starting salary is at .32 cents per mile. She will say to you that you will receive a raise after a certain duration, but even that is subjective. She is a fast talker almost of a predatory nature, often times I think that we as men are caught with our pants down, because she is a woman and it is very disarming. Back to the raise issue- you will be raised by only a penny – yes I said a penny. Climate’s cap is .40 cents per mile. Believe~ you~ me- I have yet to meet a coworker that was making .40 cents per mile. You might be wondering were the other truck drivers honest about their pay, and I must answer to you an emphatic YES! Because the salary was a common complaint along with other issues. Like many recruiting practices in the truck company business the recruiter will try to grab your attention with embellishments about certain attributes that would naturally be attractive to you -but you will not experience them from this company. At least not with the current staff. I’m not clear if the owners are properly assessing their existing staff capabilities and the poor work relationships that are fostered with drivers. The head dispatcher is rude and undermining to many of the drivers’ intelligence. It appears that Kenny believes his mind is superior to others. And if you speak up for yourself he will retaliate by sabotaging your miles so that you cannot make any money. I often wondered how this company will survive with these types of employment practices. If there is any indication how engage most drivers are and if they are satisfied with this company well let me just say that they are faced with an almost 70% turnover rate. Climate is suffering retention wise. So let’s see here the truck drivers are underpaid, disrespected, not valued, and is seen as the problem instead of the solution for this company to be successful. The conclusion of Climate’s longevity is not hard to extrapolate.
My question to the owners is; when will you hold your dispatchers accountable for their poor performance, lack of people skills, and aggressive behavior? Do you think you can have a toxic leader like; Kenny in position and the body that follows him will not be poisoned as well? Are you motivated by your relationship with your in-house staff so much so that your vision is obscured as to how they are running your business into the ground? When will enough be enough? I was a good driver for Climate, on time for pick-ups and drop-offs. I did not goof off on my 10 hour breaks, never surrendered a dirty urine, because drugs and alcohol are not my thing. Furthermore; I was respectful, yet I am a man and I cannot stand by and allow another man to berate and treat me as if I am not of worth because I chose to be a manual labor. Bottom line I am skilled at what I do- as so many drivers are, and I should be treated with decency at all times. And unfortunately Climate is unable to provide that. There’s a war going on at Climate between the drivers and the dispatchers, and someone needs to do something about it. The leadership is terrible. Climate exploits the needs of their drivers. The leaders at Climate knows that if you come and work for them at their current rate that you are need of a job, and they know that a man will tolerate a great deal to survive, and that’s just plain wrong.
