I bought my home in the spring of 2010 and it was finally delivered in June of that year. the dealership was my best friend and very interested in seeing that I was happy with my purchase until my deposite cleared that bank. Then from that day on I had trouble getting them to take my call's.
My new home was delivered & set it up the last week of that month and I moved in on July4. From the very first I noticed problem's and made a list which I attempted to turn in to Rona Homes of Pataskala, Ohio which is the dealership that I bought the home from.
There were many thing's that needed taken care of all of which I was told would be fixed immedietly when I was signing papers and handing over my deposite. Thing's such as: the front door show's light through at night when the porch light is on, when it rain's water come's in around the window's, no caulking around the tub's, toilet seat's broke the first week, nail's sticking out at the edge of the carpet, fridge not level, house not level, front storm door get's stuck (and never has worked right), cabinet door's not square and many more.
When the man from Rona Homes came to take care of my list of issues with the home he was very surley and un-cooperative. He complained that my concern's were un founded and I was told it was my responsibility to "level the fridge & caulk the tub's" he also said that the rest of my issues were thing's he would come back and fix. He never returned and my follow-up call's to them were un-returned.
Since then I have had to have my roof repaired due to shingles coming off. The insurer said it was a manufacture defect but did honor the insurece, (sort of....gave me money but not enought to fix the roof or the interior damage). My son-in-law got locked out of the house by the storm door not opening about a month after we moved in. He had to break the latch in order to get into the house. Which resulted in my having to pay for the rpair. The window's that were put in this house are so heavy I have to get help to open them or close them. If they were to fall onto a person's hand I am sure it would result in a broken finger or hand so I am going to have to replace them just so I can operate them safely myself. the tub in my master bath is already cracked. My kitchen cabinet door's are falling apart. Moulding is coming off from arount the door's. The carpet's are getting thread bare and coming up. (apparently Clayton homes doesn't feel padding is necessary?)
I am now looking into just having my roof repalced and am looking into replacing my window's and will soon need to replace my flooring due to the carpeting being so shoddy. The ceiling and wall's in my home will need to be repaired/replaced due to water damage from the leak's. This place is not even 5 yr's old and all this work is needing to be done???
I am a disable veteran that has only my pension to support myself with. This home is supposed to be my final home where I intend to live out my day's on this earth. Now I am looking at the fact that i am going to have to just about do a rehab project on this house! I felt when I bought this place that I would do some updates as fund's allowed but now instead I am working hard just to keep it safe to live in.
I am interested if there are those that would like person's to join in on a class action law suit. this company and it's representitives defrauded me and only seem interested in getting my money. I would like them to at least give me the mean's to fix what is wrong with this house so I can continue living in it.
We bought our home from Clayton homes of Austin in 2010. Within one month we had rain and quickly discovered we had a leak in the roof. Clayton homes sent jack of all trade repairmen who would play around on the roof but never fix the problem. Now we are outside of the one year warranty and they will do nothing to help. Clayton homes is under new management and they will not even return my calls. Here are the pictures of the overpriced homes damage. Please contact me before deciding to buy anything from Clayton homes in Austin and I'll let you walk through my home and see what they call quality.
This is the worst of the problems but there are more problems. Closet rods break away from the wall making the closet useless. Porch rails break away from post making the rail unsafe. The marriage line can be felt in the floor when walking through the home. These are all things I have been told are normal.
We bought our very first home, a brand new Clayton manufactured home in June of 2013 through the mobile home park where we now live. We had a 1 year warranty through Clayton Homes. As soon as we moved in, we started having a lot of thumps and squeaks coming from the floor, and then we noticed just how cheaply put together our home is. The carpet was worn down and matted after only 2 months, one of the windows was crooked and we were unable to lock it, there was no caulking around the windows, there were gaps in the interior trim and you could see inside the wall (was covered by the ugly pre-installed curtains), cuts in the very thin linoleum and edges were curling up, window and door jambs are not square so doors hang crooked. Clayton Homes sent a "local" contractor to deal with the floor and the crooked window. He was able to straighten the window enough that we could lock it and caulked around all the windows, but when it came to the floor he didn't have a clue. Our floor problem got worse and started to spread further through our home. Clayton Homes sent two of their own contractors (from out of state). They got underneath and said they were using "sqeak-enders". The next day, the sqeak and thump sounds were back and had spread even further. We were told to wait for weather change to see if it helped. It did not. In the meantime, we started smelling sewer gas coming from both bathrooms. Didn't matter if we had just flushed, used the sink, or neither at all. We contacted Clayton Homes about this and the floor yet again, then waited and waited and waited... Then winter had come and we started having trouble with our furnace. We had two different repair men look at it and they kept replacing the igniter that melted each time. One replaced the circuit board and a faulty switch. Finally, when these two separate repair men were working together, they discovered a bunch of drywall chunks in the air intake. They removed as much as they could. So far, that seems to have solved that issue, except that they both said that there is rust already in the furnace. :( And there is still cold air coming in through the windows. Finally, Clayton Homes sent their contractors back to deal with our floors and the sewer gas. They were not at all happy to be back and it was quite evident. But they told us it was the sewer pipe vents under the sinks, that sometimes the little flapper thing gets stuck so we have to pull it off and "thump it". Then they "fixed" our floors, which went back to our original problem again the very next day. As for our sewer vent issue, we've had to pull off the vent everyday, sometimes more than once to "thump them". Today (9/16/2014) I tried to replace them myself, but no one carries the under sink vents that have female threading! Every place I went to, no on ever heard of one with female threading. I even tried getting adapters (it requires 2 different ones per sink), but there is not enough room under the sinks for both adapters AND the new vent. So our home continually smells like sewer gas, I have a headache all the time, and I am embarrassed to have anyone over. This was our very first home purchase. I am disabled. If we could have afforded something better, we would have, but we also expected that a NEW home would keep us from having problems at least for a while. We were told by the contractors that Clayton Homes, Crest Homes, and Redman Homes are all owned by Warren Buffet. If that is true and he condones this kind of business practice, he should be ashamed. We can't afford all these things going wrong on a 1 year old home that only had a one year warranty.
