My son found this tile guy (Leon Matthews) on the internet who did tile work for him. I hired him to do tile in my bathroom which included the shower.
He comes off as nice and friendly. He has "Trust " on his website. He's going around saying he is a christian and he does not work on Sunday because according to him it is "God's Day". All in a text he sent me.
I mada a grave mistake and hired him. I gave him 1/2 down for the job in form of $1125.00 check. He brought his 22 year old son with him.
He was very messy and unprepared when laying the tile. He had me go to Lowes at leat 5 times picking up material that he did not have. I paid for all my supplies.
I was not happy with the tile on the floor; I pointed it out to him via text that the tile was not level and was not grouted properly and I did not like it.
He texted me back that my concerns were for nothing because if I let him finish and give him a chance I wuold be happy with most of his work. He installed a toilet as well and soddered pipes to my tub fixture and poured concrete foundation in my shower. I kept asking him if he tested his work because I did not want him to install tile in my shower and end up with a leak from the tile behind the shower wall.
The toilet he installed was leaking. I noticed that the copper pipe to the tub fixture was bent. I began to feel uneasy and lost alot of sleep worring about this person and how he obviously did not know what he was doing.
I called my neighbor and askd if he knew a plumber. He did so, I had the plumber/contractor come in and he revealed to me that my concerns were valid. He kept shaking his head and sighing when he saw what this guy did.
1) Tile not laid, grouted and or not spaced correctly and unlevel.
2) Toilet leaking and not installed correctly.
3) Bent copper pipe at tub fixture would burst and cause water everywhere when water turned on.
4) Cement not correct on floor of shower as the drain in shower floor is supposed to be lower than the cement shower floor in order for it to drain correctly.
5) He cracked my door frame when he was cutting the base of door frame to insert tile.
5) He damaged my lawn when he drove over it with the tires on his trailer.
I am disterssed and lost alot of sleep. I even gave him and his son breakfast on the 1st day. He taught me a very valuable lesson. Now, I will have to pay someone to undo the damage he caused as well as complete my bathroom. It is 2 weeks now and in the processs of getting someonelse to come and give me an estimate of work I need done.
