A couple of months ago I foolishly overrode my wife’s intuition and bought a home warranty policy from Choice Home Warranty (CHW). I did so because I was responsible for all house maintenance activities and having suffered a severe stroke in 2012 I knew that my maintenance schedule would likely be negatively impacted and I likely had a higher exposure to failures of various home components. I thought I was doing the right thing by purchasing ‘peace of mind’.
On Friday June 17 in Austin, TX our home AC unit failed to operate. I contacted CHW and was provided the number of a local refrigeration specialist to arrange a service call the following day.
The technician arrived and after explaining the problem his experience allowed him to quickly presume that our problem was likely to be a leaking evaporator coil. An inspection of the unit confirmed his assessment. He topped up the system and cooling of the house begun. Unfortunately after the weekend I was informed by CHW that a ‘leak detection’ test had to be undertaken at a cost of an additional $225 to go on top of the $300 cost for the weekend service call. I complained to CHW claiming that the leak detection test was unnecessary given that the experienced technician diagnosed the problem without even seeing the unit and after examining the unit was able to confirm the earlier diagnosis. It appeared that CHW were not prepared to accept the diagnosis and recommendations from their own service contractors. What I failed to recognize throughout this part of the ordeal was CHW’s insistence of photo’s taken during the ‘leak test’. The technician commented to me that my photo’s showed very little signs of early corrosion on the coil which was a good thing because the tiniest presence of corrosion would likely be used as an excuse to not accept coverage on the coil.
Coincidentally when CHW contacted me AFTER receiving the photo’s they immediately denied coverage on the coil on the basis of corrosion!
An evaporator coil is a vital part of any heating or cooling system. It is particularly good at absorbing heat when air is passed through it normally resulting in the production of condensation(moisture). So here we have it, a metal-based component that is subjected to a wide range of temperatures in a moisture-laden environment and CHW denies EACH and EVERY claim made by their customers if there is the slightest signs of the presence of corrosion! Its analogous to my auto insurance policy being made null and void by taking the car out on the road!!
I would recommend that you avoid my mistake and redirect the funds that you were intending to use for warranty insurance and save it for preventative maintenance services. The home warranty insurance industry are dominated by scoundrels who happily accept your money and are unlikely to provide the coverage that they insist is their top priority.
I paid for a warranty with Choice last year. A few weeks ago, I noticed my air conditioner wasn't cooling. I called Choice and they sent out a technician on Friday 6/26/15. Their technician said my compressor went out and needed to be replaced and I'd be hearing from Choice soon.
I never heard from Choice, but the technician left a message for me on Tuesday and saying that Choice had denied my claim. I immediately called Choice. Their claims representative said that that wasn't true. They didn't have any information from the technician and were waiting on his report.
I called the technician back. He said that was not true. He turned the report in while he was at my house on Friday and he had been on the phone with Choice at least twice on Monday trying to get them to pay the claim. He felt like Choice was just stalling trying to get out of paying the claim. He wrote on the report that the compressor is an electric part and they sometimes just fail. He said that it was normal wear and tear. He would call them again and suggested I call back in an hour or so.
Called Choice back, and they again said they had never heard from the technician. I told them what the report said and their representative told me if it was normal wear and tear they would pay the claim, but if it failed due to improper mainentance (along with several other reasons) they would not.
On Thursday afternoon, I called back again. It's summer in Texas and I'm going on a week witout air conditioning and getting a little frustrated. The claims rep tells me they still don't have the report from the technician. This is comically ridiculous at this point. I told him it was unacceptable and asked to speak with a manager. He said he'd check into it and get back to me. Within 5 minutes, I received an automated call saying that my claim was ready and to call.
I call Choice back and they informed me that my claim had been denied. According to them, a compressor can only short for 4 reasons: lightening strike, power surge, improper maintenance, and another I can't remember (it wouldn't apply anyway). Their own technician said that is not true. He flat out said that electric parts can fail at any time for a number of reasons. The cost to repair is between $1800-$2300. Choice just doesn't want to pay.
I asked to speak with a manager - no one was available. I said I wanted to cancell my warranty and get a refund. The cancellation rep said I can't cancel, but then spoke to someone else who said I could and they'd give me $26. I asked to speak with a manager - again, no one was available.
I hung up and immediately called 5 independent air conditioning companies. Every single one said that Choice is totally wrong. Compressors can and do fail every day for reasons not on their list through no fault of the home owner.
I called the claims department back again, told them what these 5 A/C companies said and asked to speak with a manager. THeir manager told me that the compressors are made to last at least 18 years and if they fail before that it has to be because of one of the reasons on their list - and therefore isn't covered. He also said they wouldn't know the real reason without cutting the unit open. (Their own technician again said that isn't true either).
I gave Choice my money in good faith that they would make repairs if I needed them. They won't listen to their own technician and I truly feel they had no intention of fixing my compressor.
They made their decision on Monday and left me to sweat. It was unconscionable that they left me without air to avoid talking to me. If I hadn't complained on Thursday, who knows how long it would've taken them to get back to me.
I would avoid this company. They do not live up to their end of the bargain and have no qualms about leaving you without air conditioning for a week.
Please do not spend your hard earned money with Choice Home Warranty, they cover nothing while claiming to cover everything. I do not know how these people stay in business.
My AC unit is not cooling, Choice Home Warranty had a service technician come to the house and perform a leak detection test. They found a leak in the coil but because it was caused by a fan blade they would not cover the repair. Why have a warranty system that would not cover a damaged part.
First off My name is Dennis and I am a 65 year old Vietnam Vet. and I do not believe companies do this to seniors.
I have a home warranty through Choice Home Warranty. On my warranty paper work everything is covered including the hot water tank.
On or about May 26th 2015 at 6am my hot water tank started linking. I called the warranty company , they in returned gave me the name on a plumber that can come over and see what was going on. At 6:30 pm the plumber came oover and said that you need a new water tank. So the next morning I called Choice Home Warranty company and they told me they will check and see it it was covered. Well a few hours later thaey called me back and said that they DO NOT cover Hot water tanks.
When I ask them why , I was told that they do not cover the fittings or the interior of the tank. Which does not make any sense.
I then ask to speak to a manager and he said that he was the Supervisor. I said ok then let me speak to your manager , he said you can but that is not going to change anything.
they advertise that the hot water tank is covered until you read the small print on the back. This is a rip Off and companies like this get away with stealing from senior citizens.
I filed 2 claims on April 29, 2015, one for my broken front loading washer and the other for my oven. Let me just say they denied both, but the oven claim is where they really got creative. I was told that the technician reported that the control board of my oven went out. This caused the oven to malfunction while self-cleaning and catch fire. Get this they denied the claim based on the secondary fire (which is not covered) even though the technician reported the malfunctioned (brain). After I complained enough they offered me $91 to replace the control board of a totaled oven that the firemen, had to break the glass and door to put the fire out on. The technician reported the stove as a total loss. So after arguing with them to no avail, I told them as soon as my claim was settled I would be cancelling my policy. I was told by Warmesha that even though I was paid for the entire month of May, if I canceled then on the 9th of May, not only would I not receive a prorated refund, they also would not honor the existing claim and send me the $91 check. I argued that the claim/ incident happened during a time that I had coverage (April 27, 2015) and in fact I am still covered. They insisted that their policy stated that if I canceled they didn't have to honor my claim. So I said send me my check and then cancel my policy. Warmesha stated it didn't work like that, if I had any intention of cancelling, I would not be paid. Warmesha then stated that SHE was going to cancel my policy; I explicitly told her not to cancel, just send me the money ($91) for my claim and disconnected the call. This was 5/12/2015.
I called today 5/19/2015 to check the status of my claim and was informed that my policy had been canceled by WARMESHA at MY request. After speaking to Michael ID #1852181 I was told that my policy would not be reinstated and my claim would not be paid since I was no longer a customer of CHW. I requested a manager and got Jose ID# 1852180 and was then told, that they never should have offered me any compensation and he was rescinding that offer. He also stated that he would try to reinstate my policy; I declined that offer and instead asked for a refund of my May premium. Jose stated that even though Warmesha canceled my policy against my will, they had not assessed me the $50 cancelation fee, if I insisted on a refund of the 3 unused weeks he would then apply the $50 cancellation fee. I then informed him again that this call as well as ALL previous calls regarding this claim was being recorded. He promptly hung up. This company is a SCAM, they are in business to collect premiums ONLY. Their moto is “you get more and pay less” the truth is you pay less and get NOTHING. Unfortunately, I didn’t check online reviews BEFORE signing with the company.
Do yourself a favor and check ALL reviews and complaints and GO WITH ANOTHER REPUTABLE company. All the complaints are the, same premium collected, claim DENIED. I am contacting the AG, the BBB and any other legal recourse possibly available to me. I am going to diligently try and get a class action law suit filed against this fraudulent company. I f I could give ZERO stars I would, unfortunately like everything about this company you have to give them something.
First problem was with aircondition unit coil leaking. After first being told it wasn't covered because it was rusted and after raising hell finally they agreed to pay $ 800 i had to pay $500. Then called concerning dishwasher was told it would be repaired After waiting over a week for part and repair it still didn't work was told to take $ 200 as payoff and i could purchase a new one ($2000). When i requested cancellation of remaining 2.5 years of contract was told no refund was due because cost of repairs was deducted from the $ 1300 paid for the protection. These people are not reliable and will come up with anything to keep from paying for repair.
Do not , Do not use this company before reading all of the fine print in the contract. Check the Better Business Bureau before purchasing this product.
Please do not waste your money purchasing home warranty coverage through this company. Their policy is written in such a way that they can and will find grounds to not pay claims on any covered items. If you look at the conditions limiting their liability for actually paying repair claims, you will see that basically any part of the system that may have broken down is excluded, and therefore they are not liable for coverage. Take your insurance dollars to a more reputable company.
Last month we received a call from Choice Home Warranty Company stating they can provide a warranty services which includes plumbing, roof leaks, appliances. A month passes by and we encountered an issue with our Kohler DTV system.
The technicians were dispatched and to my surprise, they don’t cover anything. When I purchased the warranty, I specifically asked if the covered the system, and I was told “YES” and of course they don’t.
After talking to the company that was dispatched they stated how terrible this company was and it was a waste of money.
I have 4 rental houses and decided to get a home warranty just for piece of mind. Purchased a Choice Home Warranty, this company is a nightmare to deal with. Whenever we make a service request they will never look at the long term fixes for any issue. They always do a temporary fix, in one summer the technician had to visit the house 5 times putting the tenants to utmost discomfort. I had to pay the tenant hotel charges couple of times. Today I had a water emergency in another house and got the PRV and wataer tanker replaced with their prior permission. When I made a claim they say that neither the PRV or the water heater are covered. Horrible experience with these guys.
They will aways interpret the contract totally in their favor and deny our claims. Never buy warranty from Choice Home Warranty, you will not get any thing from them, its just waste of our time and money.
Purchased a new home and and decided to get a home warranty just for piece of mind. Purchased a Choice Home Warranty, what a mistake. This company is a nightmare to deal with. Have filed 2 claims, both of whiich were denied. My first claim was for a roof leak which contract says was covered. Second was for a plumbing line being broken which contract says is covered. They denied both claims!!! I don't care how carefull you read your contract, they will interpret the contract totally different than the customer. Stay away from Choice Home Warranty...
I have and an American Standard 5 ton AC unit which began to leack. I called for service and had a gentleman show up and diagnosed the problem. The problem was a leaking condensing coil that needed Soldering to stop the leak.
I was called by Choice Warranty to have thme tell me the repair was not covered due to the fact that this was what they called premature failure. The unit is 10 years old. I don't know what that means. They would not explain. I cancelled the policy and called the AC company that made the diagnosis and paid for the repair myself.
What a joke. Beware of a contract that has now line of covered parts and labor and paragraphs and paragraphs of not covered items and labor.
My wife called our home warranty company, Choice Home Warranty. We had no heating or coolling. It took Choice about a week to locate a service provider although I live in Phoenix, AZ...No company would come citing lack of payments for their services. I finially got a company to come out "against their better judgenent" They diagnosted our problem and received authorization for repairs. 3 months later, as the repair company stated, they were never paid for their work, labor parts etc...Therefore, they could not perform any additional work through Choice Home Warranty. I had a different company come out for my other unit that was 5 years old and Choice denied the claim as non covered as it was the compressor that failed!!
I callled them and they said it would be covered but when I identified myself as an existing customer, Choice hung up.
Our A/C compressor stopped working. It is 17 years old (we bought the home less than 6 months ago) and choice thinks it should last 18 years. They call it "premature failure" which is not due to normal wear and tear, so they denied the claim. They advertise that they will cover your appliances no matter how old. Don't believe it! Their exclusions are general enough that they can deny any claim.
They can deny most claims by saying the problem is not due to normal wear and tear. They wouldn't cover our a/c compressor because they called it "premature failure" which is not due to normal wear and tear. It's 17 years old, but they think it should last 18 years.
I have a plumbing pipe is leaking The main shut off/on water pipe in the garage),i made a claimed on friday and chw assigned to the contarctor which did not open on the weekend, when it come to the next monday, the plumber just took 30 second just to look at it and collect 45.00 sevice fee, cash or debit card Because the check or credit card would be stop payment) and told me that in a couple of day, they will call to schedule the service Due to don't have the part at the time). The next morning chw operator called and informed me that they will not fix it due to it is not in the policy. I was sucker in to buy 3 years policy just to have peace in mind if something goes wrong. I am angry and dissapointed that they just wanted comsumer to buy in the policy and did not want to pay for the repair.
BEWARE!! I have documented proof of 27 retail customers that this so called "home warranty company" has ripped off! I am a contractor and had the miserable experience dealing with them and on behalf of their customers. The excuses they have made on what is clearly covered repairs is clearly unbeleivable. Total BS! They have ripped off so many. I know thee New Jersey Attorney Generals office is "hot on their trail" We made the decision to stop doing additional buusiness with them as a serious moral issue for our 46 year old family owned and operated business. Once thhey determined that we would no longer perform work for them, they then stopped our payments for work they actually authorized. This is very hurtful as we purchased the necessary parts and equipment plus labor. I have authorization numbers for those repairs they couldn't BS their way out of. In order to be promised payments, they put on a 90 day delay, had us sign a "gag order" but never paid us anyway! BEWARE BOTH CONTRACTORS AND HOMWOWNERS
We performed work for Choice Home Warranty. They would agree upon a price while we were on site, but they "adjusted the invoice" after we submitted it. They refuse to pay what they owe. We work with multiple home warranty companies and this company if by far the worst. Take caution when dealing with this company.
After having paid for 4 years coverage with Choice Home Warranty, we were told they would not cover our pool/spa heater due to lack of maintenance.
I explained the unit had been maintained and they asked for documentation. I provided requested documentation, showing where the unit had just been serviced and cleaned 2 months before, and two times within months of the last.
But because of a photo that the technician took, that Choice had requested, showed dust in the bottom of the unit, even though it is an outdoor unit which cannot be completely sealed in order to function properly, they stood by their decision that the unit had not been maintained/cleaned and they would not cover the unit.
I will also state that the photo shows clean wiring and components in keeping with what the technician stated that he had cleaned the unit 2 months before.
I asked the technician if there was anything I could have done better in the maintenance of the unit and was told that since the unit is 9-10 years old and has been serviced several times over the last few months, each time replacing another part, that eventually a heater this old was going to go out and cost more to repair than to replace.
Which is what Choice Home Warranty advertises, that things do get old and do need to be replaced and that that's why they're there, but they're not "there" when it actually comes time to do what they advertise and put in their contract.
Denied a claim for a microwave one year ago, due to the fact that it had normal wear and tear from being in place for 10 yrs. Now our claim for our maytag 3 door frig is denied, because, they are unabe to locate a serial number on the machine. so the machine is unrepariable, and they wuill credit us the cost of the part which is $260.00 FAR FROM THE COST OF REPLACEMENT !!! Although they paid us $200.00 for the Microwave... Also less then the cost of replacement. So .. if we do the math.. we paid out more in premiums to Choice Home Warrenty,, and $90.00 in service calls..
Choice Home Warranty is happy to take your money and sign you up for a home warranty that covers "everything". However, when you have a claim.... If it is over $100, they deny it! I had coverage for about 48 days and my double oven went out. They sent a HVAC technician that also takes care of appliances, to my home. He arrived 2 hours late. He never pulled the oven out or tested anything. He gladly took my deductible and had the check cashed the same day!
Choice told me the touch pad was bad from use over the years. I have had the oven for about 5 years, with 2 people that live at home and I cook in the oven an average of 1 time a week. Husband works diferent hours than I do and we don't eat at the same time. So, this is impossible to be the correct answer.
Since the guy never tested anything, I asked about a second opinion. They said I could get one and to get the technician to call them directly. The tech came out on Saturday. They aren;t open on Saturday, even though their website says they are. Tech called them on Monday and told them the problem is the electronic control board, not the touch pad. They still refused to cover it. The board is inside of the oven. There is no way it is from over use of the oven. Then the manager, Dane, said he would check into it and see what he could do.
He would call me back in an hour. 3 hours later I called back. I sat on hold for 25 minutes and got disconnected. I called back again, sat on hold for 28 minutes and then got transferred to his voice mail. Then I called back and sat on hold again for 23 minutes and then finally got him on the phone. He said the claim was too close to the day past my 30 day covered period (that doesn't cover anything during those 30 days). It was a little over a week after my 30 day period.
This company takes your money and doesn't cover you claims. They are quick to offer to give your money back, minus a $50 cancellation fee!!!!!!! There should never be a cancellation fee if they haven't covered anything to begin with. I told them I would be doing reviews on their company. The guy offered to waive the $50 cancellation fee if I wouldn't write any reviews.
TOO BAD, I want EVERYONE to know what a RIP OFF THIS CHOICE HOME WARRANTY company is!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY111 YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!
We contacted CHW to have our heat pump checked out. Was asked if it runs, we told them yes, but blows cold air for quite some time before it gets warm. Our electric bill doubled in one month. Wanted it checked out, but was told that as long as it runs, they don't do anything.
We did not know that--but now we do. When asked about preventative maintenece, was told that only when the unit does not run will they come out and check it out. We thought they would check it out before everything stops working altogether. Will be going with a different company. And you can bet we'll check it out to the last letter. This leads us to believe that if our refrigerator stops freezing and keeping the bottom half cold, as long as it runs, they won't do anything. So, as long as our heat pump puts our air (even tho' it is cold air), they won't do anything until the unit stops all together. RipOff!!!!!!
I purchased a 3 year warrantty for my vacation home in July 2014. In Sept.2014 my refrigerator in Florida stop working, I contacted this company so they can send a repair man to come. I musted have call them 6 times because I had gone food shopping and had $300.00 worth of food in that refrigerator. Since I was not getting a repair person there asap I had to get a neighbor to lend me a refrigerator so that my food would not spoil. Three days later I get a call from a rep, who tells me my $2000 Kenmore Ellite could not be repair and for me to call CHoice and see what they wanted to do. So I call Choice and was told that because there was a second refrigerator in the home they were not going to honor my claim. After speaking to a nasty supervisor by the na me of AARON he says that he will grant me $450 towards my claim out of the "goodness of his rotten hearth" 30 days later I still haven recieve the $450 for another refrigerator. It seems that they are very nice to you on the phone when you are purchasing the policy, but if you ever have a claim WATCH OUT cause they are not honoring your claim and find a loop whole to screw you out of the claim. I also had my air conditoner stop working while I was there, called to put in another claim as of today I never hear from them....... had to pay out of my own pocket to have my air conditioner fixed........this company sucks.....
This is a home appliance warranty company that has over 900 complaints regarding failure to pay claims for any number of reasons. Mostly "dirty" or "failure to maintain" but will offer no proof the appliance is dirty. So it's your word against theirs. And they will find other ways to deny claims if you DO have maintenace records such as requiring THREE years worth of records which is NOT in their contracts.
Water heater was leaking so I filed a claim with Choice Home Warranty. Since it is a small town, the Rep said it would be faster if I paid to fix it and submitted a reimbursement claim. I did. It was denied. Never given a reason why--I just quit trying.
AC went out in August. Called to open a claim. The first repair company given to me said they didn't work with Choice any more because Choice wouldn't pay them. Called Choice back and got a second repair company. That company said they didn't work with Choice anymore. Called Choice back and asked the rep to make sure the repair company CHOICE sent me to accepted their warranty. Each time this happened, it took 24 hours for Choice to call me back so we are up to 3 days without AC. The last company did fix the AC.
Washing maching had a noise like a freight train. Called Choice to open a claim. Repair man cam out and said it needed a new drum berring. He would order it and install in when it came in. 30 days later I called Choice to check the status. I was told the machine was too old to repair. I was offered $200.00. It was 18 months old and still financed. The rep said, "Oh, my bad. I'll order the part." I checked back with Choice a week later to find out the part was discontinued and was offered $250.00 for my 18 month old front load washing machine. I said no, but let me see if I can find the part. I was told I could not use eBay or Craigslist--Choice only used quality parts. Found the part at whirlpool.com. Called and gave Choice the part number and amount. A few days later I was offered $300.00. I said no, fix the washer. After complaining for several days, the offer came to $435.00 which did not cover the part and shipping let alone the price I was going to have to pay to install it and another service call. Filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. When Choice found out I did that, they cancelled my warranty and said the refund would be mailed in 30 days. It's been over 35 and still don't have a check.
Check with the NJ Atty General's office before you purchase a warranty. What you find out there is very interesting. They are investigating Choice for selling warranties and add on policies and denying the claims.
On August 14, 2014, my mom and I purchased two homes warranty from CHOICE HOME WARRANTY. I was giving one month free because I recommended my mother. We were told anything wrong with any of our services under warranty to contact them as soon as possible for repair or replacement if they can't fix it. I also was told our warranty will start after a month for people who do not provided any previous maintenance record and after that we are fully covered except $45.00 service call fee. On September 27, 2014 my A/C & Heating system stop blowing cool air. I call them on the 29th of September,2014 and a tech. was assigned to my case. He came to my house requested $45.00 service call and $30.00 to run a leak check. He found a leak in the coil system. He scanned the coil all over the front and found no leak until he placed the scanner alway in the top corner behind the coil that the scanner started to beep that indicated the location of the leak. I called the company the same day to find out when my coil be fix. I was told over the telephone not to worry because the technician sent them a report that said my house was well maintain. The next day I received a e-mail that indicated to call them. When I contacted them I was told my claim is denied because my coil is rusty. I said what rust , the color of my coil is copper and the leak was found way on top at almost an invisible spot. I spoke to supervisor: CHRISTINE id #8231, she refused to allow me to speak to mgr. I request a denied letter be provided to me and was told denied is done over the telephone only. Please google CHOICE HOME WARRANTY complaints, reviews and you will thousand of people are being taking as fool. They only collect payments from customers not fixing anything. Thank you for your help!
My ac unit stopped working so I called choice home warranty and filed the claim. They assigned the technician and he came 2 days later and diagnosed the issue and said it is not working because compressor in the outside unit stopped working.
He said that it is normal wear and tear as my Ac unit is 12 years old. He called them from my house and reported the issue. But they said they are not going to cover it. this is the 2nd time they denied my claim. This company is not good and never pay for anything. They need to be shut down.
We have a rental use that we have coverage on. The unit needed was not cooling properly so we filed a claim. The first tech they sent out was extremely rude and short tempered. He didn't have the 5 minutes to wait time for my tenant to get a hold of me to see if I would be willing to pay for extra services. He said nothing was wrong with the unit - it just needed cleaned. He didn't perform any service, packed up and left before I even had to time call my tenant back. I filed a complaint with Choice about the tech and they assigned someone new.
The next tech they assigned didn't show up at the time they told us they would be there. He said he had a more important job and wasn't worried about us. That he would come when he had time to get around to it. I filed a complaint again. The next tech they assigned also never showed up and when I called them they said they totally forgot about the service ticket. I again filed a complaint again. The fourth tech went out, determined that the seals on the compressor have gone bad and it needs replace. He said the coils are in good shape, they are clean and the fins show no sign of damage. He called Choice, but Choice informed him that the compressor failure was due to lack of routine maintenance and would not be covered. This is based off the fact that the first tech filed paperwork that nothing was wrong and it just needed cleaned.
A manager informed me that they have since stopped using the first company due to multiple complaints about service. However, due to his report to them that the unit was dirty, they are claiming the compressor failure is not covered. So, now they are requiring me to provide documentation that I have had it cleaned yearly by a certified HVAC tech to prove that the failure isn't lack of maintenance. I have a home warranty so I don't have to pay for this time of repair. I went through 3 different AC companies and then they stand one a statement from an AC contractor who is less than reputable. They aren't going by what the 4th tech that they sent out said. They look for any excuse they can to avoid paying and file it under not being maintained regularly.
Choice Home Warranty is a SCAM. My water heater had a water leak a the bottom of the heater and flooded both my garage and bathroom next to the garage. I waited three days for Choice Home Warranty to replace my water heater, but instead I received an email. When I called them, they informed me that the water holding tank in the water heater was not covered. WHAT ? Isn’t the holding tank part of the water heater ? STAY AWAY FROM Choice Home Warranty. It’s a SCAM.
This company will scam you out of money easily. We paid in full for the home warranty service. Then after we had it for about a month we had to place 2 seperate claims each claim has a deductible of $45.00. When the first contractor a plumber came out they told us the service we needed was not a covered item. GO FIGURE ... The next day Choice had set up an appointment with a dishwasher service company, I spoke to the company prior to them coming out and told the lady I spoke with on the phone what the issue was with my dishwasher. She said OH, if you have CHOICE WARRANTY that will not be a covered item. At this point I wasn't shocked but very MAD, neither one of my claims would be covered after I had spent $450.00 on the home warranty and $45.00 for one service call and got saved by the contractor on the other service call.
The dishwasher contractor that I spoke to told me if you can get out of your contract with Choice Home Warranty do it as quick as possible get your $$$$ and run!! She told me that I'm her dealings with them they are the worst and never cover anything.. I called the next day and cancelled my warranty lost another $100. Plus a $50.00 cancelation fee...
When contractors are telling you to RUN and consumers like myself are telling you to RUN..
you better RUN, this company is SLEAZY!!!
******I have used American Home shield and NEVER EVER had any problems on any claims. I will be taking my business back to them..
On 5/14/2010 I signed a contract with a home warranty company under the name of Colonial home warranty with address at 53 Edison place, Newark, NJ 07102. I paid the premium in advance for 5 years (lured by the discount)valid to 5/16/2015. 2012 ihad aproblem with my swimming pool, the contractor (was never paid) wanted $750.00 for anew motor/pump, Colonial adjustor said the max will pay was $500.00.I asked what about if I do it myself, responded they will only pay for material, Isent them the receipt for $412.00 and .....
I AM STILL WAITING! then my 4 year old heat pump (one of my 2 units) had a leak and after 3 ac contractors they assigned and costing me $250.00 the condensor was found to be the problem the denied any coverage cause there was no maintenance records and everybody laughed as there areno such service existing in this business.
I have contacted the Insurance commissioner of maryland but guess what, today Ireceived a letter from the court of N Jerseywhere they filed for bankruptcy so scummers they get relief by stealing your money , not paying contractors, etc. Choice home warranty is the same con artist business, probably New Jersey is not regulating these hybrid scam businesses.choice home insurance is no better than COLONIAL considering all these complaints since its inception of 2008.Beaware and protect yourself !!!!
Choice Home Warranty Reviews
General warning to homeowners:
Again, I have documented proof oof these ripoffs.
JUST DON"T BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!
