Scammed my 85 year old father in law out of $5,100 saying he needed chimney/furnace work. Have confirmed with 2 other reputable companies that the work was not needed. Chimco said they repaired/replaced things that they never did. Now we have to spend $1800 to fix their 'work'. If they had actually done the work listed on the invoice, it should only have come to around $1800-2000, no way it should have been $5100. When contacted, they asked if they took $1000 off the bill would that 'make this go away'
On Oct 3rd 2015 they came to repair my chimney but due to the weather they had to leave and said they would be back in a week. They asked for 250 dollars in cash and we gave it to them. I made many calls and could not get any results. We are retired and this was a lot of money for no repairs. We are now getting another company to do the work. I understand it is the older folks you scam and you are thieves.
I got called last December but my wife and I were not working so the man on the phone was sympathetic and said he would try in a couple of months to see how we were doing and if we wanted our chimney cleaned, in December the sale price was $80 dollars but on January 2016 he was sympathetic to me again and offered to do the job of cleaning the chimney, vacuuming the exhaust tubes of the furnace, hot water tank and doing a smoke test of my boiler for... Are you ready for it.....$35 dollars! Hmmm, I said ok so they came here on February they called me first to verify and give the names of the 2 persons showing up and even detailed what their van looked like, so one guy comes in very friendly and introduces himself and quickly tells me to show him the basement so I do, the first thing he looked for was the clean out door to the chimney, it took him 30 seconds before he takes his phone out and takes a picture of the inside chimney and than comes the bad news, I need a liner put in because the clay material was missing on the inside and was deteriorating a big gap was gone, he showed me the picture but did not show me the phone until he pulled up the picture and it seemed as though it is a generic picture they carry to show people that your chimney is deteriorated, he pulled the quick "I can't clean your chimney because if I do I can do more damage and it's in bad shape" now I myself know a little about everything and new something was quickly starting to smell and then came the solution, $1500 to place a new linner in, I said to him man, that sounds like a real good deal but I am still unemployed and cannot afford it right now so he threw in that I am burning more fuel because of the missing linner the air is pushing down and making it work harder, REALLY! I then said to him if the linner was gone where is it because at the bottom of my chimney was empty, where did my linner go?. I rushed him out. I can see how older folks or people that are not mechanically inclined would get screwed with the fear that they imply for not doing the job. Definitely a switch and bait. CHIMCO shame on you.
