I just wanted to leave a review for Cheapest In the Land Handyman to help others hopefully avoid a bad experience. I have worked with a lot of contractors, but this guy was definitely one of the worst.
I hired Pimo (Ruben Perez is his real name) to put some tile in an apartment that I own after the unit flooded. His price was pretty low, but not so low that I thought he would be completely terrible. The work was supposed to be done in 3-4 days so my tenant would not be inconvenienced for long.
The first day Pimo accomplished not very much work. When I arrived I was a little surprised at how little was done. He said his helper didn’t show up and he was on his own. His work was also very low quality. I kind of figured that it wasn’t going to be great, but it was immediately obvious that he did not know what he was doing. I was in a rush though so I resolved to have a very poor tile job. My biggest concern was it getting done and getting my tenant back in the unit. He promised to be back the next day around 8:00am and was going to work until he got at least the bathroom and bedrooms done. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and paid him the $500 deposit I promised.
The next day was when the real nightmare started. Pimo showed up 2 hours late and without a helper again. Around 1:00pm he sent me a text saying there was no way he could get what he promised done because someone put too much glue down when they laid the linoleum and he couldn’t get it up. I told him he needed to use a stripper machine. He was trying to get it up with a chisel. He got very defensive and upset. I told him not to worry and that I would go rent a stripper and we would have it up in 30 minutes. He seemed anxious to leave and asked if we could start on it the following day. I said that we really needed to get this done today. He agreed and I said I would meet him there in about 45 minutes.
When I arrived at the apartment Pimo was nowhere to be found. I tried calling him several times, but he has never returned my phone calls. He left the grout half way done still wet and all over the tile. I had to rush and wipe it before it dried. I also had to scrape up all the excess mortar that he just left everywhere. It was a mess!!
Again, I just wanted to leave this review to make sure no one else gets put in the same situation I was with this guy. It was a terrible experience and a waste of $500 and a bunch of my own time. Hire a professional and make sure to check reviews.
