My husband and I purchased a double-wide manufactured home in January 2000. We purchased the residence through Southern Showcase Housing (now bankrupt) in Greensboro, North Carolina.
We understood that some mobile homes had particle-board flooring underneath the flooring and it was in our written agreement that the underlayment would be plywood instead of particle-board. When we ripped up the carpet in 2011, we discovered that the underlayment was particle-board.
Throughout the years that we have owned this home, each and every water connection has separated causing severe water leakage underneath the residence. Everyone knows what happens to particle-board when it gets wet. There are spots in the floor where we are afraid that we will put our feet through the floor.
I am surprised that the heavier appliances (fridge, washer, dryer, etc) haven't fallen through the floor. Our heat pump has never worked correctly and it freezes up when the air conditioner is on in the summer. When the heat is on in the colder months, my daughter's bedroom stays cold but when the air conditioner is on, my daughter's room stays overly warm.
This is a cheap-a$$ piece of junk! We have been searching for a new (to us) stick-built residence but with all of the problems we are having with this mobile home, we can't sell it.
