I am a 14 year employee of Centurlink, formerly Qwest. I've always been a top performer even through a really hard time personally.
Last year I closed the largest sale I've ever had. Two and a half years of blood sweat and tears, trust me. When it closed though, it was all worth while. Even though it took a while the pay off would be big enough to do somethings special.
Believe me, I had a list. Foremost on the list was to support my missionary brother and his wife who were trying to do a good work in Ukraine. Then we had choices between an add on to the back patio, pay off a credit card or go to the dentist for a big job I needed to have done. Probably a little of each.
I was supposed to be paid in January because the sale installed and begin to bill in Novemer. I was very alarmed when my earnings statement showed the add of $13,000 and then the subtraction of the same amount.
After many emails and pretty much being ostercized by everyone there I got responses from a different person almost everytime and conflicting stories and pretty much figured out that no matter what information I gave them the decision was made and it was all about saving money. Come to find out the "rules" to be paid were changed during the actual pay review process and no one was told. That means that the year had neen closed out dec 31 and we were waiting for our checks and thats when the company made changes RETROACTIVLY to the commission payout guidelines that they said made my deal ineligible for payout.
$13,000! That's a lot of money to take from someone that's been expecting it for several momths. What a ripoff. And the Executive Vice President had just told me a few months ago not to worry. Then a few days ago while sitting in her office she , made small talk and cracked jokes while I digested the fact that the money wasn't coming. I still cant believe it. It's late in my career and I won't get that size opportunity again. I am so frustrated and depressed. This alone has made it hard to go to work, hard to know my new employer has so little apprecition for the hard work and long hours that they would decide on a whim to exempt me from celebrating a milestone success.
Honestly I can say I have never worked for a company that felt as dirty as CenturyLink. Don't bee fooled by their accernt or the pretty "Unifying Principles" they hide the unethical practices behind. To me I don't see how the EVP Betty Reynolds can look at herself in the mirror. You can't run your business any better than that? You have to steal money out of the pocket of the people that carry you on their back? That is a sad story and someday, everyone one will know.
