This company called then mailed a collection notice to me for $949.05 magizine subscription that I never order nor never recieved. They will not send any documentation or specifics for this purported order either. This company is not theatening to report this to my credit bureau.

Unfortunately for Capital Billing I know my rights. It appears they violated the Fair Debt Collection Act, specificially:

§ 806. Harassment or abuse [15 USC 1692d]

§ 807. False or misleading representations [15 USC 1692e]

§ 809. Validation of debts [15 USC 169 2g]

I have sent them in writing my dispute and filed a compliant to the CFPB. I would recommend anyone who feels they are wrongly accused of a debt they do not own should file a compliant with the CFPB (http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/), this is the Gov't agency that regulates collection agencies.

Capital Billing Service

Thank you for this info, I have the same problem as everybody here. I thought it was just the Readers Clearinghouse that was the scam, but I appreciate knowing now that Capital Billing Service is also part of it. Sorry that everybody is going through this, but at least I do feel a little better knowing the whole story! Again, thanks for the info!

Received a bill claiming 999.00 dollars in collections for 'readers subscription service' that I never received. I never signed up nor do I receive any magazine or book subscriptions. Up until this collections letter I never received a bill of any kind what so ever yet they are threatening to report the debt to my credit report. I called the number numerous times but no one ever answers and I just keep leaving voicemails. This is completely absurd and don't know how to solve the issue.

Received letter stating i owe $878.90 for magazines/subscriptions? To a readers clearinghouse organization. I have not had mag subs for 15 yrs! stated they will mail me names of those who have filed judgements against me and provide names of original creditor if different than current creditor. Reporting to the bbb in la, ca and have posted on another scam site where others have reported the same company requesting more than my amount! these folks never heard of them either nor do they have mag subs or have any unpaid that would come close to totaling $1k!

Collection notice for $999.00!

I received a collection notice in the mail date July 8, 2015 for the amount of $999.00. When I called Capital Billing Service, the representative got an attitude with me because I wanted to file a dispute. I explained that I had never received any information from the company they claim to be representing (Readers Subscription Service). The first representative hung up on me because I would not give any further information about myself. I called back and spoke to another representative who gave me a contact number for Readers Subscription Service. I called the company and they transferred me to voicemail.

After reading similar complaints about Capital Billing Service, I have decided to file a8 formal complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau.

Received collection letter stating I owed 1,048.95 dollars for a collection. It is stating if i do not contact them within 30 days, that they will assume this debt is valid. Cannot reach anyone at the 800 number. I cannot afford a mark on my credit for something i did not authorize.

A couple weeks ago I recieved a letter in the mail from a Capital Billing Service stating that I owe $1,098.90 to a Readers Distribution Center. When I called them, I stated that I had no idea where this bill had come from or why I had recieved it. in response, they told me that I had signed up for a magazine subscription that had not been paid for the last two years. Not only did I not sign up for this subscription but I had not recieved any other bills prior stating that I owed anything.

When I tried explaining this to them, they tried to tell me that my information had been stolen and that if it wasn't me who singed up for them then someone else had used my information to do so. If this was the case then why hadn't I recieved any other bills? I told them that I was not going to agree to pay them because I believed I was not responsible for the bill. I had no idea the account even exsisted.

I was then informed that if I did not pay the balance, it would permenantly effect my credit report. So I asked them for an address at which I could send payments because I of course don't want my credit score to fall. When they provided me with the info, I took it upon myself to look up the address and location of the facility I would be sending my hard earned money to. Only to find out that the location doesn't even exsist, giving me closure to the fact that this was in fact not my own doing and that I was being scammed.

I am not and will not pay this company money, they need to be stopped. I dont know where they got my info or why they are charging tons of hard working people hundreds of dollars but all I know is that I will not put myself out of pocket the $1.098.90 they are demanding from me.

I recieved a letter from Capital Billing Service dated June 1st, 2015. They want me to pay an outstanding debt of $1098.90 for Reader Distribution Center or they will submit negative reports to my credit bureaus. I have no idea what this dept is for or why I recieved it. I have never been behind or missed a single payment on my life and then this shows up. I plan on sending a letter back to them as certified mail stating that I owe nothing and they shall not contact me again.

I recently received a letter from Capital Billing Service stating that I owed money in the amount of 1098.90. This was unusual to me because: I do not remember agreeing to such a service., nor have they ever contacted me stating that I owed anything.

I contacted the company upon receiving the letter and asked for the number of the company that I owed money too and he gave me the number without ever asking for the particular company, nor my name.

The letter also stated that I am required to write a letter to them to respond saying that this letter was a mistake. So I definitely will be sending them a letter.

Capital Billing Service sent me a letter on 4/15/15 to collect a fraudulent debt of $1,098.90 for American Readers Source. I sent them a dispute on their website and mailed 2 dispute letters--one to their Wilshire Blvd. address (which is on their letter) and one to "7210 Jordan Ave., Suite C63, Los Angeles, CA, 91303," which is the address on their website (which has the same phone number as the letter they sent to me). I sent these letters registered, requiring a signature from them.

On 4/16/15 I got an automated message from them on my phone to contact them.

On 4/17/15 I called them (888-507-1027) and got someone immediately on the phone. The details given of this issue were that I allegedly subscribed to a magazine service in 2012 for $49.95 per month with a 2-year commitment and I allegedly paid for 2 months. Said this was a verbal commitment and that I needed to respond to their letter within 30 days. Capital Billing Service had my name, address, birthdate, phone number, and credit card number.

This is a scam!

American Readers Source is not a company I have ever heard of or done business with. Their website (americanreaderssource.com) is very vague--cannot access anything on the website except to fill out their contact form. Their address on the website is: 2885 Sanford Avenue Southwest #31474, Grandville, MI. There is not a licensed business in the state of Michigan with this name.

My understanding is that if I did not respond to Capital Billing Service's letter I would be held liable for this bogus debt and have my credit ruined.

After filing my complaint to Capital Billing Service on their website, it said, "Thank you for contacting us! If needed, you will hear back within 48-72 hours." That was on Friday, 4/17/15, and I have not heard from them yet.

NOTE: Our son who lives in a different county received a call from American Readers Source on 4/16/15. They hung up on him when he said he would have to talk with his attorney first.

Letter received from Capital Billing Service LLC claiming i owe and have been sent to collections for $1,098.90 from American Readers Source. Never heard of this account nor have i ever had a subscription and with no previous billing or communication, and out of nowhere it says i owe and to contact them to pay the amount owed and if they dont hear from me in 30 days they will assume this notice is valid and i owe the amount.

On Aprill 8, 2015, I too received a collection notice re: American Readers Source in the amount of $1,098.90, Account# VXYZQXV4 and threatening me of my being reported to the Credit Reporting Bureaus if I don't make payment.

I made several attempts to contact someone from Capital Billing Service at 1-888-507-1027 only to have my calls roll over to voicemail. Today I finally managed to speak to David Wolf, ext.106 at Capital Billing. He informed me that I supposedly agreed to a five year contract with American Readers using a credit card and defaulted in payment and thereby was in breach of contract.

i have never entered into such a contract for magazines or any other publications with American Readers Source or any other such company that sells subscriptions via telemarketing.

At no time have I ever received an invoice or billing statement from American Readers Source showing I have owed anything, then I arbitrarily receive this letter.

This is clearly a scam and I am most definitely disputing this attempt to collect.

I obviously do not want my credit compromised because of this bogus claim and am grateful to Ripoff for filing this complaint.

I received a bill from Capital Billing Service, LLC, a collection agency, in the amount of $1098.90 on 4/7/2015. RE: American Readers Source, Account #YY57U1K4. They are threatening to ruin my credit if I do not mail this money. I have never heard of American Readers Source. I did find a consumer complaint with other aliases from this company. This company goes by aliases, such as, American Readers Choice, American Readers Source, and Your Magazine Source. I have not requested magazines, books or any materials and have never received notices or billing from them prior to this collection notice. The sum of money for magazines, books, or whatever they are billing for.... is exhoribant, $1, 098.90. I called the KY Attorney General's Office and they are sending me a complaint form.

I attempted to file a complaint with the BBB, but could not find any information on them. I called Capital Billing Service on 4/7/2015 at 1:50PM and held the phone for one hour and ten minutes before hanging up. The toll free number for Capital Billing, 1-888-507-1027 only plays music. I prepared a letter informing them they are being reported for fraud. I am sending a letter via certified mail on 4/8/2015. I placed the company on notice not to have any further contact with me. However, I am concerned they will affect my credit report.

Capital Billing Service, LLC shows an address on the bill. The company they represent is "American Readers Source".
