I first found Kevin on Yelp, with two 5* reviews and a fairly convincing website (now defunct). I was a little bit suspicious but he said all the right things and used all the right words, so I figured I could give his services a try. He mainly pushed his board and train program, which were supposed to include follow-up lessons, and he offered me a "discount" for his "summer boot camp". My dog had more behavioral problems than obedience, such as food aggression, alpha behavior with other dogs, rough playing, and stubbornness, which were problems that I didn't know how to fix and not easily "seen" in the house. He showed up at my door, took my dog and my money, and cashed my check soon after. He seemed to be responsive in his emails though he NEVER gave any details on what he was doing or how she was training her, and even outright lied about her behavior, saying she was barking a lot when she never barks. When it was time for her to come back he kept trying to meet with me at a time convenient for him and gave me a hard time about it, especially since I work and could not be at home.
After I got my dog back, he followed up with another couple vague emails about her behavior, but she didn't seem improved at all. Tired and calmer, maybe, but I assumed that was because she was playing with the other dogs he was "working" with. Finally, 2 years later, I find his Yelp reviews again and see that EVERYONE other than the initial 5 * reviews have said the exact same thing -- that he never trained their dogs, was unprofessional and gave them bad advice. Some of the reviewers have found out that he boarded all the dogs at Tyson Kennels (how did they allow him to do that without accurate dog information and vaccination records, I have no idea - seems like a shady place too) and did not do a LICK of personal boarding or training. Their dogs had obvious signs of being boarded at a kennel, I was lucky enough to escape with my dog intact. Since it's been so long since our transaction, I don't expect to get any of my money back, and I'm more angered that I gave money to a fraud and a bad person who would just leave other people's dogs at a kennel, not to be liable, than losing that money. Don't do what I did, do your research, do not trust Kevin Mendez or any of the businesses he might be trying to run.
