I was scammed by this shop. they took 4000 from me and lied about the repairs that were done to the cAR. They even left over 4,300 worth of new damages to the car. Since he refused to give me an invoice for the parts that were sopposedly replaced, I had to report him to the BAR. As the investigator assigned to my case went to speak with him he continued to lie. he denied the new damages and said that we had agreed to pay him 4000 for a job that costs 1200-1500.
He painted the whole car without permission and in this processes caused additional damages and an incomplete paint job. bumpers were loose, moldings hanging off, alloy wheels damaged, leather in car card has holes, key holes were painted black and bottom half of vehicle was not buffed; the paint has that "orange peel" texture to it. Also on the hood of the car, there are small sections where there is no paint. The door does not lock. If I attempt to lock the door the windows and sun roof open.
The mechanic told the investigator the only deal he is willing to make is to pay me 150 or buy my car for 4000. (the car is worth more then 4000). Of course I said no, and am now in the process of finding a lawyer. I will pursue a case against this mechanic, Campos auto body and possibly the insurance for the estimate that was given.
Campos auto body in Castroville CA is not a licensed repair shop. Their owner is in federal prison and the shop is run by the mechanics. Because they are not licensed and are receiving money for services, this would be a misdemeanor. They also do not give invoices which is against the law.
Even if you are close to the people here, do not take chances. This mechanic has ripped off his own friends. He is greedy and not to be trusted. After all this, I really wish I had taken my car to Pestana's in seaside or Roberts Auto in monterey. Both shops.
