Cancellation policy is obscure and mis-leading. I phoned and asked for information on how to cancel months before actually needing to cancel in preparation of child moving away to college. Was mis-informed, and told I had to go to the gym physically to cancel 7 days before billing cycle ended. I did that and they refused to cancel unless I paid another month. Went home and found I their site says they have an email that I could have used, so I did that. Then they commenced to send me to collections and sending me dozens of harassing emails saying I had to cancel in writing and my membership is "pending cancellation" not cancelled.
The contract that just won't die!!!
Then they finally sent me a copy of the contract and what do you know... It says if we move more than 25 miles away, we can cancel and only pay a $50 processing fee. So by my accounts from the first time my daughter attempted to work with them on cancelling the contract, they actually owe me a refund.
I would recommend a different club unless you want to be connected to them for life or have your credit ruined when they mis-inform you. I'm resorted to seeking assistance from the better business bureau. it's not a case of the money, they just flat tricked me by not telling me when I first called that I should go in 1 month before my daughter moved, then are expending endless energy abusing me because of their own negligence.
Nice club, but those managing the paperwork are in my opinion, spoiling it for all those nice people at the gym that we happily worked with for 5 years while paying them their $99 per month. Now because of their own misguidance on the phone when I called to see how to cancel, they are choosing to send me to collections, attempt to damage my credit, and unwilling to accept that their own employee mis-lead me into waiting a month to cancel.
All they had to do was answer our question, way back in August when we asked... "What do we do to cancel the membership, I'm going to college and don't need it anymore", with a direct and clear answer.. Come in 30 days before you leave and give us notice! But no, that would not have given them their hook to extract another $113 out of my credit card.
Yikes! This is just not the way local businesses should be treating their long standing customers. Again, very nice club, very nice people that work there.. but this did it for us. We will never sign up with this club again, ever, because of this horrible stressfull and avoidable cancellation of contract. They are not clear and honest when you approach them on how to cancel in a nutshell!
Description of Complaint: I visited the California Family Fitness Natomas location to join the gym to get healthy with my husband and kids. They offered me an awesome deal. I pay 59.99 a month single and 109.99 for a family of four. this includes admission to the Kids Club which is daycare for kids while the parents work out. great right!! and on top of that offered my husband and kids 30days free and all I would pay is first month and last month for myself then after 30days the normal 109.99 would apply...Sign me up that's great.(now last year I had been a member of the club and I stop going and was billed for months I didn't use the service but according to the gym I had an old balance so they were willing to forgive the debt with paid membership)me and my husband have separate bank accounts so we split the payments on two separate card transactions. which caused an issue with the system but according to the manager everything went thru correctly. Hubby paid 64.99 and I paid 64.98 and we left the gym later that night with a new gym card for me and my hubby.
the next night I get an email from my bank showing a charge to my debit card that was onfile with California Family Fitness for 129.99 in addition to my pending charge of 64.98. I contact CFF and they said that they only see the charge for 129.99..ok now there is a problem apparently the rep who signed us up and did not process the membership correctly. I asked why I wasn't called and they had no answers. I was also told that I needed to pay an additional 49.99 because the sales rep forgot to charge me a processing fee which can normally be waived. Frustrated with the lack of answers for the CFF club location I contacted corporate who said that they could refund me for 14.00 if the 64.98 charge processes or I will need to pay an additional 49.99 if no they will cancel account.IF YOU INCORRECTLY BILL ME, CHARGE MY ACCOUNT UNAUTHORIZED. THEN ASK FOR MONEY WHEN MY ACCOUNT IS OVERDRAWN BECAUSSE YOU ARE HOLDING MY FUNDS HOW DARE YOU. very upset for the theft.
