Never EVER ... UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy from this company on the first visit! If you do you will pay way too much. Here's their MO ... you'll be in a retail store ... an ACE Hardware ... True Value ... Grocery Outlet ... one of those places. You'll be approached by a "greeter" (a CR Boger employee) and asked some questions to determine if you're a good prospect. If you are, they'll set the hook by entering you in a drawing (yes there really is one) in which you can win $1,000.00 ... or you'll be at home and a canvasser will knock on your door, claiming to have "a job going on in the area" (there will usually be one within a few miles) These are CR Boger's main lead generating methods.
Frankly, I would never shop in any of those retail stores again if they allow that kind of unwanted solicitation! The store gets a piece of the action (which of course drives up the cost to homeowners). I mean really ... you go in to pick up a roll of duct tape or a gallon of milk, and are hard-pitched for an appointment to hard-sell you something you might not even need! Complain to the store manager, save your fellow shoppers from the same fate!
If you agree to set an appointment for an estimate, they will insist that both homeowners be present. They will call you 2-3 times to confirm that both of you will be home. In many cases, the night of the appointment they will call to re-set the meeting. If this happens to you, it's because you're deemed not to be a strong lead.
Once they show up (many times 2 salesman will arrive) they will run through a very calculated procedure ... warm up ... company story ... inspect and measure ... product demo ... pre-close ... close ... warm down. You know, the whole dog and pony show.
Beware ... CR Boger mandates "Project Managers" stay in your house for 2-3 hours, or the salesman will get reprimanded, even terminated!!
They spend HOURS each week strategizing on how to CLOSE ON THE FIRST VISIT!
Once they have done the whole show, they'll hit you with a "retail price" ... some ridiculous number that will be several times their bottom line. You'll say you want to think about it ... they'll say "fine" ... and be there another 2 hours. They will "drop" the price 2-3 more times, might "call their boss" do everything they can to close you "while they are there". Beware of discounts with names like "nearest neighbor" "marketing allowance" and the ever popular "unit volume discount" it's all BS. The last attempt will be an offer to "pay the tax" STILL, SAY NO! if you want to get it done while they are there, press them for another 10% to 15% it's called "rehash price" most of the time you'll get it. They do good work, so you're OK if you hire them to replace your roof ... windows or whatever, just don't let them soak you!
If you're not in a hurry, or don't feel like doing it "while they are there" JUST SAY "NO" and end the meeting. You'll get a call within a few days from "the marketing manager, reporting directly to the owners" he'll make an appointment for a "senior project manager" (salesman) to get back out there. Then they'll try to close you again, but make sure they drop the price by at least another 15% (from the lowest price they left you on the first visit) that's their real bottom line. (You should have been left with a document called a 30 day bid)
It works the same way if you sign a contract and cancel (which happens a lot!) ... they'll call you back in a day or so and send a salesman back out to save the deal ... again, don't sign until they have discounted at least 15% off the lowest price offered the first time around.
CR Boger's bottom line price is 40% off their "RETAIL PRICE" which is a made up number, giving them room to negotiate.
Warning: even their bottom line price is 20% to 30% higher than you can get from a reputable roofer (that IS licensed and bonded) It stands to reason that an outfit like CR Boger has a ton of overhead ... after all, YOU WILL PAY for the greeters - that accost you in the store ... the people in the phone room - that call you incessantly ... the cut of the pie the retail store gets ... the canvassing crew - that knocks on your door unexpectedly ... the Project Manager that hammers you for 2-3 hours in your own home ... profit for the owners ... etc. Before you ever get to labor and materials!
This firm spends hours each week, training their salesmen to CLOSE ON THE FIRST CALL in order to get "overage". Their business model is based entirely on a homeowner making an impulsive decision. DON'T DO IT!
