I was planning a move from San Francisco to Ft. Lauderdale. Because I had somewhat open move in/move out dates, I began shopping around to get the best deal as well as ensure most importantly, that my belongings would arrive ON TIME. Keep in mind that I am a planner, my entire move was to be planned around this, including my move in date to my new apartment. Everything was contigent on the moving company I choose.
My situation was somewhat unique as I would be driving cross country and making stops along the way. So... my move out date was approx. 3 weeks away from my move in date. My goal here was to find a company to get my stuff to Florida before I arrive, put it into storage, and leave it for me to deal with when I arrived. I would then hire another company to move my stuff into my new place at that time. That was the plan.
I spoke with a number of different companies regarding dates and times, as well as pricing. I was quoted anywhere from $1,900 to $2,100 and my stuff would have arrived within a week of pick up. I was about to sign up with another company but decided to make one more phone call to Budget Van Lines.
The sales persons name was Alan Katz. I informed Alan of my situation and regarding the move, the goal of getting things there asap, and that I would deal with getting it out of storage once I get to Florida.
Alan had a "better" solution for me. He told me that Budget would pick up my goods on my move out date. All good. He advised me that Budget had storage in Florida. They would charge me an additional fee for the storage but the best part was that I could call them anytime within 72 hours of my move in date to my new place, and deliver my goods when I needed... Sounds awesome right? They would charge me more than my previous quotes... $2,600 total... but... this saved me all the hassel of having to get my stuff from storage, hire another company, and ensure everything was done on time. Awesome.
Keep in mind that I am a planner. I was meticulous in my conversations and very crystal clear about my goals, which Alan understood. I had 3 different phone calls with Alan. Lastly, my new company was paying for the move so all paperwork was sent to them.... which Alan knew and I was not able to see that paperwork.
So.... I get a call on Saturday confirming that my materials would be picked up the following day. The call came from a secondary carrier which I was never told about to begin with. The secondary carrier informed me that everything I was told was complete BS. They informed me that the paperwork signed stated that they had 3-21 business days to deliver my stuff FROM MY MOVE IN DATE!!! WHAT????
Ive spoken to every single person in the company at this point. They have passed me around like a party joint. A MONTH HAS GONE BY AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY STUFF. They have all calls recorded. They heard the sales person lie to me on multiple calls. HE STILL HAS A JOB!
George is the sales manager, and I spoke with him multiple times. He told me more than 3 times hes sorry, he will take this to the top, and everytime I give him 3 or 4 days and then have to track him down. Hes a liar just like Alan.
Ive spoke with Tanya from customer service as well as Jose. I'm not sure if Jose can spell his own name and Tanya wouldnt remember 10 minutes ago. I called Tanya and had an hour and a half conversation with her about how sorry they are and how they will fix it. She said she would call me the next day... but 4 days went by. When I called her... she apologized for not keeping notes, forgot who I was, and I had to start from scratch.
The only positive is Donald. Donald listened to the sales reps calls. He knows the guy flat out lied. He knows the bait and switch that was pulled. And he is the only one helping me try and track my stuff down.
The other carrier meant to deliver my stuff has now dissapeared!!! They dont respond to me or to Budget!
Meanwhile I have spent more than $2,000 on an apartment I cant move into but have the keys too.. and a hotel room where my 2 large dogs are having to sit all day while I work 12 hours!!!
I think about Alan Katz and Budget 24/7. They have absolutley ruined my entire move, move in, and happiness.
THANKS BUDGET VAN LINES!! YOU OFFICIALLY HAVE PROVEN TO BE THE WORST COMPANY EVER.
This company is out to scam you and steal your money. The agent gave me a quote based on my inventory.
I told him that I would have to add items as I was not home. He told me not to worry and that he will over estimate everything for me. Needless to say when the movers came they told me that I was under quoted.
Instead of paying $4500 I would have to pay $6000. Budget van lines had told me that I had a refundable $1400 if any of the services were not satisfactory. When I told them that I could not pay their mover $6000 they told me that they would have to keep the $1400 deposit.
The customer agent named James would not allow me to talk to the agent who took my order nor the manager. He just kept telling me that they are keeping the money and that is it. Avoid this company at all costs.
