My experience was worth the financial cost if the following cautionary tale even saves one pet owner the trouble and misery of dealing with this place.
The short of it:
Avoid Blue Pearl at all costs unless your pet has a clearly diagnosable condition and you don't mind dealing with cold and indifferent veterinarians who won't meet with you to discuss symptoms prior to examination and refuse to give you lower cost alternatives for diagnoses and care, and you don't mind having the terms of service changed, and if you are also alright with being separated from your animal and staying in the waiting room while your pet is being 'looked at'.
Wait a second...... hold the funking phone dear consumer, none of that should sound right to you because they are the classic signs of a con artist scam.
Friendly confidence (wo)man who does your intake and gets you to lower your guard when you are already vulnerable? Check. Shady impersonable care provider who refuses to meet with you and shake your hand? Check. Won't let you see their work? Check. Generally evasive, vague, makes excuses and refuses to accommodate and address your concerns when you finally get to meet them? Check. Makes suggestions for testing and treatment not related to condition being seen for? Check. Reinterprets conditions of contract? Check.
This has scam written all over it.
On to specifics:
Took my pet in here for extreme lethargy, unresponsive behavior, loss of appetite, vomiting, inability to pass urine or make a bowel movement. Vet assistant who did intake was cordial and thorough but that's where any semblance of courteous or professional behavior ended.
My animal becomes really nervous and scared without me in strange places like vet offices, and they were already sick and it's an incredibly frightening and stressful experience for them. So I asked if I could go back with them to the exam room to help reassure and keep them calm and to answer questions about their symptoms and behavior.
In turn, I was told to politely I had to wait in the lobby and like a good unthinking patron (mark) I did as I was told. Buzzers and alarms in my head start going off, I overlook this and chalk it up to, "its late, they're short staffed and they can't watch to make sure I'm not up to anything"....
My dear friends, this should've been a huge red flag to me or any of you and I should've run from this place screaming immediately with my pet in tow and peeled out of the parking.
How the h*** do we even know they bothered to do an exam if we can't be present for it?
It's a scam Sam, that's why.
No decent and reputable place would ever separate you from your fur family during an exam no matter what, shame on you and your shady practices Blue Pearl.
So the vet finally comes out to discuss the 'exam' and tells me she thinks they have a breathing problem and that she needs to X-ray their lungs. This time I actually listen to the alarms in my head and I tell this cold calculating scambot that my buddy didn't come in here with a breathing problem. This illustrates that they are going to come at you hard preying on your moment of weakness trying to get you to pay for really expensive procedures you don't need. Follow your intuition.
I told her I knew the breathing problem was happening due to stress because I couldn't be there with them during the exam. So she continues to insist it's a breathing problem, I insist it's not. At this point I get pissed because she's incompetent or lying, but I keep my cool and politely decline further testing or diagnoses. I pay the outrageous exam bill, get my buddy back, and we noped the h*** out of that den of connivance and grift.
So unfortunately my pet was still sick the next day and started having seizures, and I was busy that day and strung out from crying and staying up the night before trying to care for my buddy, so I wasn't able to make it into another local vet. But I remembered that the vet's assistant at Blue Pearl said that if my pet's condition got worse I could bring them back and the vet would see them again free of charge. So out of sick desperation I called them and asked if they could check them out again.
They tell me they can't see him free of charge for a different condition, I said it's the same condition only worse. They say it's a different condition, then I say, "Well what if I want to have him checked for the same symptoms displayed during the previous visit?" the assistant says she'd have to ask the vet on the clock and call me back. I hang up and at this point I decide I don't care what they have to say, I will not let them see my pet because they are lying charlatans trying to scam pet owners in times of need.... and neither should you if you value your wallet, time, sanity, and most importantly your pet.
Take my advice and unless you have no other option see your local vet.
he receptionists here have absolutely no compassion. Don't work with animals if you don't feel like dealing with them. After my dog was brought in for eating some chocolate they brought him to the back while I filled out the paper work. While I waited to hear any news I was sitting down and was approached (literally hovering over me) by one receptionist, she just blurted out "how are you paying for this? Cash or credit card"? Wow!!! ummm lady first of all how is my dog and can I see him. They really need to get some new people in here that have some bedside manner. My dog ended up staying overnight even though he seemed fine. They wanted to keep him for a full 24 hours which I thought was a little crazy. The first price I was quoted was around $1,700. I told them is that necessary to keep him that long. This was around 11pm to keep him till 11pm the next day. I asked the vet if they watch him all night and he is fine can I get him in the morning. So she said I can pick him up in the morning if everything goes well. She was very nice and seemed compassionate and very knowledgable but then again she was probably the only one there (along with the other Veterinarians) with a college education.
So now with me picking him up in the morning instead of 11pm the next day, the price went down to $1130. When I picked up my dog in the morning they gave me the discharge papers, the tech said if I had any questions I can call anytime, so I did. When I called later on in the day the girl that answered didn't want to give me the time of day. I was concerned about the food ratio because it was very vague on the paper. I wanted to make sure that I didn't give him too much considering what he had just gone through the night before. She said to me "whatever it says on the paper then that's what it is." I told her "yes, but it's vague on the amounts. Is it the normal amount that I usually give him of his regular food or is it 2/3 and 1/3 cup size." Since its chicken and rice I wanted to make sure before he ended up back there with pancreatitis since he is at risk of that now from eating chocolate. She finally transferred me while saying "ughh oh lord"! I was hung up on twice before I got to speak to someone that could answer my question. I couldn't even believe inconsiderate, classless service I received. Unbelievable. I will never go back to this place and I will make sure to tell everyone I know with pets to avoid this place at all costs!!
ook my cat for a blockage. Paid almost 2 grand with military discount. I was concerned when I took him home two nights later about his behavior with urination (or lack of) and lack of appetite for food or water... The receptionist blew me off. Had to take him back to our regular vet Monday to find out his blockage was back and he had an infection. Found out Blue Pearl did not give him an antibiotic. I basically paid for a weekend stay and a catheter for my cat. Never returning here again. The only nice thing was the male receptionist when I went to pick him up, very kind. Too bad he works for an inept veterinary hospital. He could do better.
When I called them to ask why they didn't give him antibiotic they said they didn't think it was necessary. His penis was full of puss from the catheter they had in him. They would not admit wrong, nor would they appologize. They didn't even offer an anti-inflammatory. When I asked why they said cats kidneys can't take it... So why did my vet give me one? Oh that's right, because they could have given us one special for cats.
I called three times last night questioning his behavior. I have call records, they said they only had two calls recorded. We would have taken him back for more care that night but they said "its normal" "he should be okay".
This business doesn't even deserve a star. They asked me what I want. If I knew a lawyer that wouldn't charge for taking this case I would sue for misguided care and torturing my animal. Even my vet was shocked they didn't administer an antibiotic. The crystals in his bladder were cutting it up!
All they did was keep him alive through the weekend and very poorly. I should have taken him elsewhere. I'm glad I didn't listen to their ideas and took him to my vet as soon as possible
The vet always thinks it could be 1 of 4 things that's wrong with our guy and is never able to pinpoint the actual problem. Of course, after 3 visits and over $1600, were no closer to getting a healthy dog.
Complete quacks, trying to extract as much money from pet owners as possible. I would strongly recommend against this place.
