On January 15, 2015 I underwent a sleep study at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is now January 22, 2015. It was determined that a bpap device was needed to avoid a serious medical condition that is potentially very detrimental to my health. Since that time the provider of the bpap device has provided the required information for pre-approval on two occasions and received confirmation on both occasions. Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) would not and as of this writing has not responded other than an automated confirmation of receipt of the required provider information to authorize provision of the medically necessary device. Indeed, the provider of the medical equipment required has had difficulty in even getting someone at BCBS to answer the phonee. That is UNTENABLE and IRRESPONSIBLE!
BCBS denies ever receiving the paperwork filing despite the provision of the confirmation to the contrary to BCBS. Also when I ask about the length of time once all of the paperwork was located. I was informed that this process would take an additional 30 days. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE and potentially further endangers the health of the insured. When ask how to accelerate the process I was told there was no option or path to do so. The non-medically trained telephone operator was totally uncooperative and unqualified to stand between the insured and the medical professional prescribing the medically necessary device.
I will NOT - under any circumstance - ever consider BCBS for my employees!!! Be careful in subjecting yourself or any employee to this incompetent and arrogant insurer!
