Everyday.....10 plus times a day...I would hear their commercials on the radio....one month it was credit amnesty...one month...""we can lower your car payment or will pay your payment""....
I have driven a Kia for the past 4 years and because of my personal situation, decided that I wanted another Kia because of the warranty... I at first had my heart set on an Sorento.... SO I did what most consumers do and I applied on their website for financing. I received a few voicemails from them, but never actually talked to anyone...
Last week, after many hours of browsing and comparing, I knew that I was not going to be able to afford the payments on a Sorento, so I decided on an Optima. I called the dealership to ask about down payments, etc.... and as soon as I gave them my name... I was told ""Cynthia has been trying to get ahold of you.... and I was put through to her"" I made my request known and was told I was PRE-APPROVED for NOTHING DOWN!
Last Friday 3-28-14, I arrived at the dealership at 10am. I had taken off work so that I could go and get a car. The day after I spoke to Cynthia I emailed her and told her I had picked out the car I wanted and she replied ""I will put that note in your file"". When I arrived at the carlot, I was met outside by a salesrep.. I immediatley told him that Cynthia knew I was coming and I would like to see her...... I was informed she only handled online inquires and that he would be happy to assist me.
I was very upfront in my expectations. I had been told I was pre-approved...0 down... and I wanted a black Optima.... He then asked about my credit... Thats when I should have just left, because that should not have mattered, because I was PRE-APPROVED..... He then aksed me what kind of down -payment I had.... and what kind of monthly payment I was looking for.... My price range was 300-350 for payments and I had a trade in....
And thats basically when the cat and mouse game began... After atleast a 20 minute wait, he came and asked me for the keys so he could look at my trade in.... And then told me, that I was going to have to lower my standards and my expectations.... I should have left at that point. He then asked me about a Rio or maybe something that was used (he wanted me to leave in something sexy), or be prepared for a 500-600 car payment. The only way I would leave in something used was if it had less than 25000 miles and still was under warranty, and the most I could do was a 400 monthly payment and that was really pushing it. If that wasnt possible I would just leave in the car I arrived in. No big deal to me.... I was not there to do do anything outside of my finacial situaion and if they couldnt meet that, I would go home....save some more money.... and try again in a few months..
Him and a sales manager, did the ""good cop...bad cop"" routine.... And before you knew it I was test driving a Rio, while telling him the entire time it was too small... When we arrived back at the carlot, and I was approached by both again... the salesman said..""I just couldnt wrap my mind wound the rio."" I finally just bluntly told them if I was going to end up with a 400 monthly payment, I was not going to walk out my door...shaking my head because I was paying for a car I thought was UGLY, and as far as lowering my standards, I already had, when I didnt request a Sorento.
By this time its close to 12:30, and he asked me about a Forte. Unsure of what they looked like, I agreed to test drive one, and while it was 100% what I wanted, I could settle for that. Then came the question of a down-payment. I was under the impression there would not be one. We negotiated 500 down, plus my trade in, and the TT&L was to be included in the loan.....
At 1:30, he came to tell me because of my credit score, they were having a hard time gettine me finaced...Could I pay more down, agree to a bigger monthly payment, and then introduced to a man in a suit.... They had ""found"" a lender but I would need to agree to a 469.00 monthly payment... Thats was not an option and I told them that.. I was then countered at 439 and I agreed. At this time I had already been there 3 1/2 hrs and was very frustrated. We shook hands on 439... At 2pm, while I'm still just WAITING, I tell the salesman I have to leave no later than 3 bc my kids had to be picked up from school.. At this time I'm beyond impatient and highly irrated.... Once again... I need to say.. I should have already left....
I was then told, while they had a lender, the interest rate would be high but after 6-8 months I could COME BACK THERE, and they would be able to get me re-financed.... When I mentioned that to the ""sales manager"" he said...""well you come back here and then we work with another bank for you"" ONCE AGAIN...I IGNORED the warning signs, and I stayed... At 245 I was pacing and said once again I have to go... I was then led to another person... and he was gathering my information.... When I asked him about the TT&L , he said thats not in here and went and got the guy in the suit... The ""paperwork"" man, left the room so ""suit man"" could talk me... I was told that the TT&l wasnt going to be included and I expressed, that was why I had agreed to any down payment at all... And he said...""well I can make sure you have 55 days before you have to pay the first payment"" (AT THIS POINT, PLEASE remember that I'm less than 10 min away from having to go get my kids, so I do a quick calculation in my head.. and once again we shake... I'm told it will only cost me 550 to get my car tagged...
So ""paperwork"" man comes back in and I express that Ive got less than 10 minutes.. Its almost as is I'm talking to air...SO he begins to rush through and get me to intial agreements... We get to monthly payments and he says your monthly payment will be 479.00.. AND I said NO THATS NOT WHAT I AGREED TO.. and he said well thats to cover the full warranty..... THAT WAS NOTHING THAT WAS EVER SAID TO ME.... SO then he said, well I can still give you the warranty at the payment of 439 and he had me intial a piece of paper.... AND then he begins to slowly print out papers...ITS AFTER 3:00, I have to pick up my kids in 30-45mins and I'm still WAITING..... (My significant other had already txted me numerous times, advising me to just leave and reminding me of the time)
I finally lost it...And said I HAVE BEEN HERE SINCE 10AM, I HAVE TO LEAVE.... I wanted the keys to my trade in..... I then had to listen to the BS we will follow you with the new car, the paperwork... BLAH BLAH BLAH.... and I agreed.... Ater leaving, I Called them and said because of my schedule for the rest of the evening I DID NOT have time to sign paper work, and also let them have the trade in.... AT this time, I'm going to be late to pick up my kids, and my sig other was going to be late to an appoitment... I was willing to meet the next day or Monday, but I was 100% out of time... The ""suitman"" said ""DONT TRY TO GET A LOAN SOMEWHERE ELSE>>>IT WILL MESS UP THIS LOAN............. I told him I was leaving to go somewhere else...I HAD TO GET MY KIDS............. the whole day...it never seemed to matter that I was a MOM..not just someone trying to buy a car..... So then I was told, just tell us where we need to bring you the 2014 Forte, and we will bring you the paper work, and tomorrow, we will come and get the trade-in....
SO thats what happened.... they brought me the car to a softball game where my oldest was pitching... I met the salesman...signed the papers.. was handed the keys.. we agreed to a call the the next day to set a time for them to come and get the other car... and he left.... AND I WAS NOT GIVEN A COPY OF ANYTHING I HAD SIGNED..... (i never thought about it, my mind was on the game... My FRUSTRATION level had been exceeded)
The next morning when I callled I immedialtly said..when you come to get the 05, I need you to bring me a copy of EVERYTHING I signed.... I was told....""everything is PACKED up to mail immediatly, but if anything hasnt been mailed I will bring you a copy""
So at 3;10, the salesman came and picked up the trade-in... no copies of anything... because they had already been mailed to me....
On Monday I received a call from the dealership, about income verification on a loan, I HAD ALREADY SIGNED MY NAME TO...but no-one could still give any details.. Once again I was told, we have mailed your copies.......
YESTERDAY......4/2/14....I attempted to call BIGREDKIA 4 different times and was put on hold for more than 7 mins 3 times and disconnected once.. I only asked for someone to tell me what the actual loan amount was for, so I could find out how much my tag was going to cost....
TODAY.... I also attempted 2 calls...during business hours..BUT NO_ONE ANSWERED....... and then I received a call from CAPITOL ONE (the loaner) and they were very surprised to know I was not given copies at signing....they were only calling to make sure they had the best number
TODAY...I ALSO researched the laws about returning a vehicle after you signed the loan agreement, and I'm not protected at all... I cannot return the car (BECAUSE I WOULD) because I signed the papers that day... IN Oklahoma, there is not Buyers Remorse....the exception being ""lemon law""................ Unfortunately, its nots even remorse of the car that I'm unhappy with...Its the fact, they encouraged me to sign an agreement that they knew was not what I had agreed to.... and then when coming to ""MEET MY NEEDS"" they did not provide me copies of anything I signed.
After talking to capitol one today, I was given the actual sales amount which is about 2000 more than what the car is worth and alo that its financed for 72 months not 60.
