We (me, my retired father, and my two children) recently moved to the Bay Area from Oregon and needed a house to rent. We saw a house for rent on the internet and contacted Better Homes Realty who is managing the property. G. Larry Charvoz took $80.00 from us on a Friday afternoon as a fee for the credit check. The cost was only $70.00 but never gave me any change. He said the credit check would be done by Monday around 10 or 11am. Then he wanted to show us a house so we followed him across town. We liked the house and said we would like to rent it. He said he would call us Monday morning after the credit check. He never called all Monday. So Tuesday my father drives to their office which is about 20 miles away from here and asked if Larry was around and he explained that Larry had been working with us to rent a house. The lady called Larry on the phone and handed the phone to my dad. Larry proceeded to scream at my father! He asked how dare my dad call him when he is in a meeting and that he had been up all night. My dad said that his daughter had her heart set on the house and we were only wondering if he had done the credit check yet. Larry just kept screaming that how dare my dad come down to the office. (how do they expect to do business?) Then Larry screamed, "do you want the house or not?" and hung up on my dad. My dad has high blood pressure and was so upset that he drove to my job to see me and tell me what happned. He was shaking all over. When we had first visited their office I should have known that something was fishy because the parkinglot was empty, and the keys were in the door; they had to unlock it to let us in although the sign on the door said that they were open. The door was probably locked to keep people from busting in to beat the daylights out of that guy. Now we are out of $80, no credit check was performed, and we refuse to use that company. I am tempted to call a lawyer.
