We signed up for dental insurance through the online health insurance marketplace in March of 2014 with Best Life. We tried to pay our first premium online but they do not allow you to make the first initial payment online so we waited until we received a bill in the mail (1 month later). We also cound not reach them by phone to make a payment during their business hours. We received the bill on April 13th and the due date on the bill was April 14th. There was no way we could mail a check to California that fast so I paid the first payment using Paypal. I emailed customer service as I was frustrated we were only given one day to pay a bill and that no one would answer the phone. It took them almost exactly 2 months to reply to this email. In the meantime.... while waiting for my May bill I called them and did get an answer. I still had not received cards so I requested that they send me cards and went ahead and paid the bill for May. They tried to bill me for April again during this phone call and I had to provide them with evidence that I had already paid for April. I was amazed that they do not keep records of your payment history and that they do not send monthly bills. I have never dealt with a company where you had to bill yourself each month and provide proof of all previous payments made. Most legitimate businesses keep up with this stuff for you.... Anyways, I did receive the follow up email in June (2 months later). The email contained an apology and told me that I owed for April, May, and June. So, I called again and provided evidence that I had already paid for April and May. I told them once I received a bill in the mail for June that I would be happy to mail a check and pay what was owed. A week after this I received a voicemail telling me that I still owed payments for May and June. I am at a loss... I have never had to deal with a place of business like this. I still have not recived any bills in the last few months (only emails and voicemails). I planned to call back and make another attempt to straighten everything out but I think I am going to just try to cancel it and find a legitimate company. Upon signing up with this company I really did not think I would have any issues with them since I was referred to them by the healthcare marketplace.... Looking back, I wish I would have just stayed with United as I never had these issues with them. Save yourself the trouble and frustration and stay away from Best Life Insurance Company!
