A current add of ours on Zillow for our studio rental property at 755 Stratford Drive, Encinitas, California was copied and placed on Craigslist and offered at half price with different specifications (pets welcome). Although we have taken the add off Craigslist, individuals who applied to the Craigslist add continue to be asked via email by the perpitrators of the fraud to send deposit money of $900 and first month's rent to their email address while they are away in Illinois. The email address originally given to send money to was for Carmen.
Craigslist scam - They go by the name of Jose and Carmen. Claim to be in the military and recently transferred from Encinitas to Illinois. They are renting the "granny suite" at 755 Stratford Dr - 1 bedroom 1 bath for $900 on Craigslist, however the real rental is online (Zillow) for $1800. If you reply to their ad, you're first contacted by Carmen who then refers you to her husband Jose via phone #847-906-0584. In speaking with Jose, he requests you to wire him the $800 deposit and then he will mail you the keys to the apartment. After speaking with him, I received an email from Carmen saying that her husband approved us as the next tenant. Thank goodness we saw the previous report that was filed from Bernie and did alittle research to find out this was a scam.
