I called Benjamin Franklin Pluming to get an estimate on a water heater repair, they came out the next day. He first hands me a contract to sign, and said was just a basic agreement and a formality for his records, and was way too much to read in detail on the spot. You will come to find out that you just agreed to pay them hundred(s) just for being there, but they don't drop this bomb on you until the end. After the signing, they go into an elaborate lengthy sales pitch on buying insurance on , in my case a tankless water heater, so that I never have to spend money on this appliance again. The quote for this insurance in this case was over a ten year span and would have costed some $5000.00 plus in that time. It was a $400 water heater. He was very patient and persistent. Then he kept offering different plans and just simply wasting my time.
When he finally got to my water heater, he said it couldn't be fixed and needed to be replaced, and that is something that they don't do. After all that, I was done and irritated with him. At this point he hands me a bill for 2 1/2 hours labor at full rate for both him and his assistant for some $200 plus. I was outraged. I paid it and told I was going to call the store and report this to the manager, he laughed on the way out while telling me he is the manager. What a piece of work!
In my opinion, don't use Benjamin Franklin Plumbing Co. I did and this is what they did and I have the bill to prove it: I needed a fill valve (or column) replaced in the toilet tank. It cost less than $11.00 at Sutherlands on albert pike. they charged me 49.00 to come here. Then wanted me to pay a service call and part for a total of $ 228.00 for all of it including the 4900. I said no so still had to pay 49.00 for him to come here. my neighbor put it in for 11.00. Jarrell Plumbing, I later found out, would have fixed it for $65.00 plus the cost of the part, I will call Jarrell Plumbing next time I need a plumber. I should have looked om the internet before calling anyone.
