We retained Bekins to pack our belongings and move them from Long Island, NY to Florida. They arrived fairly on time and seemed courteous during the process. They packed our belongings, numbered boxes with small stickers, put them in the truck and left. We received our belongings in Florida about 9 days later from a different crew. This was expected since they told us that they needed to transport us from a smaller truck to a larger one for the trip to Florida. We had to pay extra for this. We also paid extra because they "underestimated" the number of boxes they would need for the packing. When we opened our belongings we were shocked to find that much of our valuable belongings were missing, even though many of these items were next to or in the same drawers as items we actually received. We contacted Bekins and were told that they already knew of one box that we didn't get because another client had contacted them to report that they had an extra box. Why they didn't contact us when they found out over 24 hours earlier about this is a mystery to me. We eventually received this box in extremely damaged and crushed condition (2 weeks later). Meanwhile, there is no response as to where our other merchandise is. They want 30 more days to contact the other people that they moved a month ago. Good luck with that.
Among the missing items are:
16 expensive crystal goblets, expensive fine china, jewelry box with assorted jewelry, wife's passport, remote control for dyson fan, a laser level, teak wood kitchen utensil holder, assorted serving spoons and fork, expensive water systems for racing bikes, sterling silver cross pencil, expensive (new) hiking boots, several bottles of wine, and the list goes on. All of these items were in different locations in our apartment and most of them were in the same drawers and cabinets that contained items that we actually received. Hmmmnnn...
Then we finally get to the part where they damaged our belongings. They crushed two poles lamps, ripped the padding off our total gym and broke the base of our 37 inch Sony flat panel HD TV.
You be the judge as to whether you would want to use a company that makes what I would consider to be minimal attempts at correcting problems they create, but are quick to charge you extra for their services. I will update this negative review and post less negative comments if they actually remedy the problem.
We hired a local moving company Midland Texas called Willis Permian Movers. We bought insurance through the parent company Bekins. We paid over $800 for this insurance. Upon recieving our items in Colorado we noticed that some things were missing. Most importantly our computer. We told the driver and contacted the moving company the next morning. We still have never found our computer and 9 other boxes. When we filed a claim with bekins we were denied. They are the most dishonest people I have ever worked with. I thought when you buy insurance you were covered. They do their own insurance and so there is a conflict of interest. I would buy privately. We have moved 4 times with moving companies and this is the only problem we have had. Beware! Bekins is not a reputable compnay.
