It was a year ago, March 26th that i woke up to a smoke filled room, my dog barking at me on the bed at 3:00 am. I got out with my pajamas, three dogs and 2 chinchillas in the cage. The next two days were filled with emotion and despair. I was insured by State Farm and the firemen, police, Red Cross etc all told me to let my agent handle this. I needed to focus on getting the contents of my wallet canceled, replaced, getting a phone, leashes for my dogs so I could walk them, and even underwear. I was a mess. My agent put myself and the animals up at a local hotel and made all the contacts. One of these was to a restoration company, Atlas Restoration in Fenton Missouri. Having never been through a fire I didnt even know about this service.
What I know now could fill a book. I did sign for them to get paid directly from State Farm but I had no idea how they would abuse that. So beware, first I would never use this company, there are others that do the same clean up for insurance companies and second dont have it paid directly without reviewing the bill. I actually wanted to review the bill and delay after delay caused that only to happen after I got my restored things back. There were two other companies involved, one for furniture and one for clothing both of these sent me bills to review but Atlas wouldnt. Eventually I got one emailed to me from Atlas and it was not complete so I had to get the original from State Farm and when I did I realized why Atlas Restoration sent me one that was incomplete.
I was charged for a room that didnt exist, I was charged for medium boxes when small boxes were used. The restoration company is paid by the box and the size of the box matters for what they get paid. The bigger the box the more they get. Thier own representative told me that the 12x12x16 was the small box and 85% of what was used was that size only it was billed at the medium size. Why does this matter? This took money that was and should have been paid to me. If you use them and they do this to you it could take money that you should get. Boxes were packed with one item, or four cook books (small ones) or six mugs, way under packed and so much paper. The company even bubble wrapped plastic and metal items and labeled those boxes as fragile! They get more from the insurance company when they do that.
Not one room was accurate on the bill to State Farm. State Farm would do nothing but say I hired them even went so far as to say I called them which is a complete lie, their agent did. Remember I was a mess looking for leashes to walk my dogs and trying to remember numbers to bank accounts etc. I never called this company State Farm's agent did. It is such a scam I was charged for returning my property to the house except I had moved out of state and went and got it myself!!! I was charged for two trucks when one was used. I should have been able to review this bill before State Farm paid out on it but my request was dismissed and ignored. I was put through the ringer for each and every item claimed, yet Atlas who received 32,000.00 for what they did and didn't do, didn't have to prove one blessed thing. I spent time figuring out what the bill should have been and I was cheated, ripped off and had 7,000.00 stolen from me by Atlas Restoration.
