I am in the unfortunate position of having to rely on Apria to provide me with CPAP/APAP supplies and equipment.
I have two insurers, Medicare as primary, Kaiser Permanente as secondary. I don't think they have EVER been able to properly bill my two insurers for equipment and supplies. I always have to get on the phone with someone and explain that I don't have to pay the 50% co-pay for my Kaiser insurance because Medicare is my primary insurer, not Kaiser and I'll be happy to pay the remainder after BOTH insurers have been billed and have paid. And by the way, Medicare pays 80%, Kaiser pays 50% so my co-pay should be about dit.
They always manage to get the biliing for a particular order fixed, but the next time I need supplies, I have to go through the same d**n drills. Oh, and they did the same thing when I had Medicare and Blue Shield, so the problem is systemic within Apria.
I have IEHP through Medi-Cal. I was given authorization from IEHP (from a letter) that I could call Apria Healthcare in October 2014 to get my CPAP Headgear and my Petite size nasal mask along with my clear frame I wear. When I got was a sized med, large and x-large and I got two of each size. I had to jumpt through hoops just to get someone to listen to me since everyone there was saying "It's not my fault you got the wrong size" and then they said "We can't do anything., it's not our fault". I think I called them four times before someone took some responsiblity and got the information down of what size nasal mask I needed to fit my face.
Come to find out now in July 2015 I'm being billed for over $650 for these things. A CPAP mask (I use the WISP mask) is only $95 - $120 for the complete entire kit with the headgear, nasal pillows and frame included. This bill would be enough to cover 6 CPAP masks all at one time! This bill leaves off information such as what product wasw ordered. It only says under description "Insurance states no coverage". It says "$362.70 and I have no idea what product came to that amount. $88.02, what was that? And $210.60, what was that? I had no clue since all it says is "Insurance states no coverage"
I called IEHP and they said I was covered and they can see that I had two authoriazations for this DME supply company. I drove to IEHP in Rachno Cucamonga yesterday and I gave them this bogus bill that I got in the mail (I made a copy of it). Now IEHP has this bill in their possetion. I was told from IEHP that I should have never been billed and that Apira should have submitted a form for IEHP for payment. I called Apria and I was told 180 degrees different. I was told from a lady named Michelle Hyuett that she "tired" billing IEHP for my supplies and that IEHP wouldn't comply. What a lie. Why would I get a bill 9 months later? And why would the due date be the day after I turn 40? Would wouldn't they just bill me 4 weeks later instread of waiting so long? What company waits 9 months to send out a bill?
Besides the bill is missing information, it says I have Phys Health Insurace and I don't. I have IEHP. Totally different insurance. I called the Speical Fraud investigation line of IEHP to let them know of what is going on. I mean if this company Apria is charging me over $600 or one CPAP mask that is fraud. They are changing IEHP of this and no insurance company is going to pay that much. I of course was told it could take 30-45 days to complete. It is sad that this company Apria doesn't care about anyone but themselves.
I've read other reports that Apria is doing the same thing with others. I have mild sleep apnea, I used to get tired around 2pm and I used to have to take 30 min naps in the afternoon. I'm losing weight off my body due to my increased energy level and eating less and the Bi-PaP machine that I got (got it from LifeCare Solutions) works so well. I can't believe this Apria Healthcare would take advantage of people that may be worse off than me and can't work due to having OSA. If you have sleep apnea, please inform your doctor (or nurse or insurance coordintors at the doctors office) to ***not**** do business with Apria Healthcare. The nurses and insurance coordinators need to know that Apria HealthCare is not a professional business. My only hope is that more doctors and nurses read these rip off reports so they can refer people out to real companies and do the right thing.
Apria Healthcare indulges in fraudulent practices and has rude customer representatives.
My husband is a colostomy patient (colon cancer). On advice of the home health nurse through secondary to Medicare, we became customers of theirs (Apria).
For 2 weeks, I fought with Apria to get the wafers (seals( and ostomy bags. I have spoken to 8 people, 2 of which are supervisors to resolve the issues.
Last week, 10 June 2015 I finally was able to place an order with them for bags and wafers. They took my check by phone-1 authorized co-pay- and did not ship the whole order. I only have wafers.
The home health nurse spoke with yesterday called them and Apria guaranteed that the bags would be here at 9 this morning. It is now going on 3 o'clock. I spoke with 1 customer rep who gave me invalid tracking number for the big 3 shippers and a supervisor today who used the eff word before rudely hanging up and calling back 3 more times and using curses at my husband.
I told them (Apria) that by the close of business today the bags will be here or my money put back in my account and I was laughed at by a male supervisor today.
Now, I have to get ready to take my husband to the ER, as he has a zip-lock bag duct taped to his belly which has ulcerated the skin and pus is flowing.
Tomorrow, I call a contingency attorney, the state attorney general of FL (where I live) and the state attorney general of CA where corporate is.
Several years ago I was prescribed a CPAP machine by my PCP. Apria was a contract provider of equipment with Aetna and came to my home to deliver and set up the machine. I was informed that the machine was being purchased by me and that after the payments I was acknowledging and agreeing to make the machine would be mine. I was told that I would thereafter receive no bills.
Oddly, the bills kept coming even after the payment schedule was complete. I called several times and dealt with pathetically bad customer service. I was repeated assured that I did not own the machine, that I misunderstood the nurse and that these charges were "rental".
It was easier to pay then argue. About a year later the charges changed. I called again and was told that Apria's new agreement with Aetna resulted in my rental charges going down. Wonderful.
When the charges changed yet again I called again. Now, however, while they are describing the charges as "rental" they slipped up and told me these actually were "maintenance" charges. I questioned why I would be paying them to maintain a machine that I was already renting from them (according to them). They claim I need to take this up with Aetna. I called Aetna and they confirm that I owe "maintenance". Well, now I am not paying anyone.
If it is my machine, the only way I am paying maintenance is if I contract for it and I haven't. If it is their machine and I am renting it, then I am not paying maintenance in addition to rent.
So I jumped on ropoff report. Lo and behlold there are dozens of similar complaints. The Aetna supervisor told me he has fielded hundreds of calls like this and that the lack of understanding of benefits by members keeps him earning a paycheck.called Aetna and was passed to a supervisor who took offense to my telling him that this was a scam. When I told him I was a consumer advocate lawyer that has been doing insurance claims litigation for 25 years he began to change his tone.
Now I will be pursuing a Class Action lawsuit and complaints with the AG's office.
I've been talked down to, interrupted, etc. Their customer service is so piss poor it's embarrassing. Because of the horrible customer service, we've switched my mother's services to LinCare (They are awesome - especially with what we've been through with Apria).
They are making threats to make it so her insurance company will not pay for oxygen equipment if we leave them, as there are only 2 options. Option 1, sign a release for discontinuing services against doctor orders. Option 2, get a prescription from a doctor. Neither of these the case.
APRIA Has been billing for services not rendered, billing my insurance without my knowledge or consent. . Refusing to send itemized and detailed billing for charges. They send bills with charge dates and amounts. That is NOT an itemized bill. I want to know what the charge is for. They do not answer the telephone. They keep sending bills , even though I have not had contact with them for four years.
