On May 29, 2014 technician Eric of Aloha Carpet Doctors cleaned our bedroom carpets. In the process he dripped a liquid cleaning solution throughout our laminate living room floor. We brought this to his attention and he stated yes, the hoses were leaking. My wife and I attempted to remove the spotting on the floor to no avail.
Upon completion of the carpet cleaning the technician presented me with the payment invoice which I declined to pay at that time due to the aforementioned liquid spotting problem. I told Eric I would call the company about it and discuss solutions. I called shortly thereafter and explained the situation. The individual I spoke to offered to come over the next morning to examine the floor.
Later that evening the same individual called and asked why I did not pay the bill when presented by technician. When I said the job was not complete due to the water damage he became very belligerent, not allowing me any further discussion. When I attempted to interject a comment he said no, I'll listen to him as he continued to berate me. He threatened to place a lien on our house, then threatened to come to our house the next day and collect the invoice payment.
At some point in the conversation, when I finally did get a chance to again mention the water stains on the floor he replied, "those things happen". All the while continuing to speak in a belligerent and hostile tone.
At that point I hung up the phone. I called back later the same day and told him I would send a check to pay the invoice and he was not to set foot on my property.
Yes it's true "those things happen." It's also true it's a well-established business and legal practice for the responsible party, in this case Aloha Carpet Doctors, to either repair the damage or provide compensation to the injured party.
To this point Aloha Carpet Doctor has done nothing to alleviate the situation. We subsequently filed a damage claim with our insurance company. The insurance company declared the laminate floor a total loss and paid a partial amount based on deprection and less our deductible.
I subsequently sent a letter to Aloha Carpet Doctors, mailed August 19, 2014 requesting they pay the difference between the insurance settlement and the cost of replacing the floor. To this date there has been no response.
