After fulfilling my initial commitment to Alltel, I continued on a month-to-month basis with a plan that included unlimited data. I lived in rural Idaho, so this was my way of tethering to the Internet; my voice useage was minimal. My average monthly bill was about $80.
Recently I moved to California. Since the area in which I live is poorly or intermittently served by Alltel, and since I have access to WIFI Internet, I decided to change my phone plan to one which does not include data, but does include voice and texting. This was supposed to cut my phone bill in half.
My most recent phone bill was for over $33,000. That's correct: $33,464.67. You might say I was surprised. The bill states I used 16,844.60 MB of data between 03/24/2014 and 04/23/2014(one month), and at $1.99 per MB, it totals over $33,000!
I have received another bill since then; I called Alltel a week ago to resolve it, and was told I had to wait a week while it was "reviewed." At no time was I allowed to speak with anyone other than a low-level customer service representative; I will say that those individuals behaved professionally and courteously.
Today I was told that, after reviewing the matter, it was decided that I had to "open a data plan," and then the case would again be reviewed. I told them that not only would I not open a new plan, but that Alltel would not receive a dime until this is resolved in my favor. I'm getting the runaround and I'm afraid this will eventually go to collections. I have told Alltel that I have consulted an attorney and will fight them.
At this point, I have lost my patience. Alltel disgusts me. I will do all I can to prevent Alltel from collecting on this.
