My husband has been employed with AirServ for (3) years. After his anniversary in May 2014, he earned (5) vacation days and he used (1) before October 2014. He had (4) days remaining in 2014 and put in for those (4) days to be taken in (1) day in Nov 2014 & (3) days in December 2014. His manager had approved the vacation time and soon before the sheduled Nov vac day to take off, his manager came back to inform him that he could not take the time off because those days were blocked by the Company due to heavy passenger travel period.
AirServ policy for vacation is that you can not carry over time to the next year, but nothing in their employee handbook states that you need to take your earned time before a certain date. My husband did not challenge this decision and accepted that fact that he had lost (4) vacation days. At one point he had mentioned the lost of his vacation days to a senior management person and they stated that they would check on it.
My husband never heard back from anyone in the Company.
Now this is really where the rubber hits the road; my husband was talking to another employee on 5/7/2015 about his lost vacation time and the other employee told him that AirServ pays you 25% of your lost vacation. My husband went to the Payroll Office and the lady told him that yes they will pay him 25%. She gave him a form and told him to fill it out. When my husband told me I was flabbergasted that this was a benefit due to the employees and one ever mentioned it and it was certainly not mentioned in orientation for new hires.
It is not in AirServ employees handbook as I read it from cover to cover when my husband was hired. This is a well kept secret according to other employees and the only way they find out is through other employees. AirServ is a contractor for Delta Airlines and it really sucks that AirServ is so callous with their employees and Delta does so much for their employees.
My husband is 66 years old working for $7.75 hour @ 40 hours. He lost $1,240 in vacation time and AirServ lousy policy will net him $310.00 before taxes. He is a really hard worker and doesn't challenge anyone or anybody. As his wife I felt the need to publish this information in hopes that someone might investigate the treatment AirServ impose upon their employees. Georgia is a right to work State and employees has no rights and it really is SAD.
