Affinity 4 (a division of AmeriVision Communications) refuses to accept my service cancellation and told me they will continue to bill me for long distance charges even after my cancellation. Furthermore, they told me if I don’t pay their bills they will report me as a credit risk to the credit reporting agencies.
I had been using Affinity 4 as my long distance carrier for many years. In October 2014 I changed my landline service to VoIP effective in November 2014. I fully paid my Affinity 4 bill in October and requested their service be cancelled in its entirety from November on. In November I received another bill from them. I sent it back noting the service had been cancelled. Then I received another bill from them in December with a past due amount and new charges. I sent it back noting the cancellation. Now I have received a January bill with new charges plus past charges and fees demanding immediate payment.
So I called them thinking their paperwork just hasn’t caught up with their billing department yet. The woman who answered my call told me they will not stop charging me for long distance even if I had cancelled the service and they were completely in their right to ignore my cancellation. She said I had no control over them billing me for long distance if I had no long distance carrier. I told them I won’t pay any of the charges after November of 2014 and she told me they will send it to collections and report me to the credit agencies who will likely downgrade my credit status.
My new VoIP service is AT&T U-verse Voice. Voice has unlimited calling to other U-verse Voice customers, plus 200 minutes of anytime calling to anyone else in the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. Additional minutes billed at 7¢ per minute. I have not exceeded the 200 minutes even once and haven’t called other countries.
Affinity 4 is using some form of illegal and fraudulent slamming/cramming and I have filed complaints with the FTC, FCC, and Caifornia PUC.
I have been trying to cancel Affinity4 since April-They still deduct payments from my account. If i want to get rid of them, I will have to cancel my checking account and start new one. Until they refund May and June's deduction I will consider them a scam.
