After my 1 year contract was up it went to the month to month auto renewal which I assumed was a banking issue. I called my gym, Anytime Fitness who told me I needed to contact ABC Financial to cancel my contact. I followed the cancellation instructions on my contract which gave the option of notify ABC Financial by certified mail of my intention to cancel and I did that. I had stopped going to Anytime Fitness and informed them that I was scheduled for surgery at the VA and would be unable to use the facility until further notice. To my surprise again the monthly membership was deducted from my bank account. I called ABC again and was told they could not do anything about cancellation because I had to go in to the gym and personally and talk to Anytime Fitness and that no phone, email or written cancellation request were not permitted or accepted. I then personally went in to Anytime Fitness and informed them that since I had just finished paying for that month, that would be my last month and I was canceling due to upcoming surgery. Coincidentally that month I added a monthly direct deposit which upgraded my bank account and I was issued a new card and card number. This made ABC Financial unable to access my bank account which infuriated them. All the while I was recovering from surgery, ABC Financial called and harassed me, wanting my accounting number and telling me that legally I had to give it to them! I finally filed a complaint with BBB who informed me that ABC requested I personally go to Anytime Fitness and they would work this out with me. I explained to them the facts and that I would be unable to do that since I was confined to the bed and my house while recovering. After not hearing a word for 2 years from either ABC or Anytime Fitness I was informed that I have an overdue account for 12 months of membership fees totaling $548. I am now disabled and am having a hard time getting Anytime Fitness to honor my Silver Sneakers Medicare card because of these bogus charges and they are informing me that they are going to collections and my credit is now in jeopardy! Both these companies are crooks that use fine print, harassment and unethical business practices to flat out steal! Don’t let them lie to you that auto renewal is not just banking information, it is a way for them to hook you into an unwanted contract! Is this any way to treat a service connected disabled Veteran!!
I went into a one year contract with Club Metro on Dec 3rd of 2013. I decided that at the end of the year I would discontinue membership so I stopped payment after my December, 2014 payment was sent. I later received two letters advising that I owed them a total of 61.08 because my billing payment had declined in Jan and ayment for February which is 29.00. Upon calling ABC financial I was informed that I had initialed at the bottom of the contract which meant I had agreed to the terms and conditions which included automatic contract renewal. I also called Club Metro in Newark to tell them that I had called and was told I owed nothing and my contract was up before I proceeded to stop payment. I was told by a female representative they dont accept verbal cancellations and I would still be billed monthly until the written cancellation was sent thirty days in advance.
