February 1, 2012 I purchased a yorkshire terrier puppy for $650 which was "rescued" from a puppy mill. The price quoted was to fund medical costs for unhealthy rescues. i love my puppy and the time I had with him, but it has been upsetting to learn that he has numerous genetic issues. I can live with a luxated patella, but in the last six months I've learned my dog has paraphimosis, portosystemic shunt (PSS), hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and kidney failure! The vet has not recommended surgery as the dog is terminal and does not have long to live. He's been a great dog but I feel cheated because I will lose him soon; he never had a chance due to irresponsible breeders.
i have no recourse and I've spent lots of money to diagnose and treat these conditions and I'm still going to lose my loving pet. i will never buy a pet without checking out the parents of the puppy and getting a health guarantee. I funded other ill rescue dogs by paying $650, but no one funds me when my dog is genetically bred!
